NOTE: THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE UPDATED FOR THE GEN 5
OVERRIDE OPERATIONS AND SWITCH SETTINGS HAVE CHANGED
Installation Instructions
Thank you for your purchase of the Coastal Electronic Technologies, Inc. GM LOCKPICK GEN 5. After
installation, the GEN 5 will allow continuous operation of the AUX input video features of your navigation screen
(vehicle must have a VIDEO AUX input jack in the console - small audio jack in front of screen is not a video
AUX input), and if your screen is capable of playing DVD movies, the GEN 5 LOCKPICK will allow continuous
operation of the DVD player when selected.
The GEN 5 is equipped with a video input that you can use for a rear camera input, a front camera input
or both. The video input can also be used for displaying the picture from your iPOD, video game, computer or
external DVD player. (See below for video input programming requirements)
The GEN 5 LOCKPICK will also allow the user to unblock on command, navigation features locked when
in motion and various functions locked in XM and CD player modes. This includes address entry and points of
interest searching, along with radio controls for XM category, CD folders etc., all which are blocked while in
motion.
At this time, Coastal Electronic Technologies, Inc. would like to recommend that you have this installation
completed by a certified mechanic or someone familiar with automotive electronics. This installation, while not
time consuming, does require careful attention to detail and precise following of installation instructions.
Coastal Electronic Technologies, Inc. accepts no responsibility due to the improper installation or use of this
product. Please adhere to all driving laws in your state. Installation and / or use of this product implies and
signifies user acceptance of this term of use.
Installation Start with the car and radio turned off. The GEN 5 is designed with a dual “T” harness, equipped with factory
male and female connectors for direct connections to your screen. With access to the rear of the screen, unplug the
matching Black and Brown connectors and plug them into the female connectors of your LOCKPICK. Then plug the
male connectors of the LOCKPICK harness into the earlier factory locations. The connectors are keyed and cannot be
plugged in to the wrong location. Slide the blue locking tabs on the top of the connectors back before attempting to
insert the plug fully into the radio.
Next, determine the switch setting you desire for your installation. There are several modes of operation
available for your GEN 5 depending on the vehicle year, options and required functions. Examples of each are
explained and demonstrated in this document.
For most installations, the disassembly needed to get to the rear of the screen will consist of “popping” loose
the trim around the face of the radio to expose the 7mm or 10mm bolts holding the radio in position. Remove the bolts
and the radio can be tilted rearward to view the connectors needed. The trim around the face of the radio is held in
place with spring loaded friction locks which sometimes can require extra pressure to release. Videos and photos have
been provided on the CoastalEtech.com website to provide you assistance.
Installation process for standard GM vehicles is available at http://www.coastaletech.com/gmlockpick1.htm.
Cadillac Escalade installation is provided at http://www.coastaletech.com/gmlockpick2.htm
Video unblocking operations can be viewed at http://www.coastaletech.com/GMCAM.htm
NAV and radio unblocking operations can be viewed at http://www.coastaletech.com/gmlockpick3.htm
Rear view camera programming procedures can be viewed at http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMPROG.htm
Quick Install Checklist:
• Remove radio trim and unbolt radio
• Plug in black and brown connectors supplied to matching connectors in back of radio
• Plug in aftermarket video if desired
• Set dip switches on Lockpick. Note: Lockpick must be unplugged to alter switch settings.
• Plug Lockpick into harness and test DVD/AUX and/or EXT video with vehicle in DRIVE only
1. Press mute 4x to unlock video –some vehicles do not require a button press
2. Press mute 2x to unlock nav and xm blocks –automatically times out after 60 seconds
3. Press window lockout 4x to GEN 5 Video input (requires factory camera or camera
programming - http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMPROG.htm )
4. Press mute 2x to end any function immediately – two audible beeps will be heard
Included in your GM LOCKPICK harnesses are easy connections for:
1. Constant battery 12V power (YELLOW)
2. Ground (GRAY)
3. ****STANDARD RCA video connection**** - An important feature of your LOCPICK is the ability to easily
input video from additional video sources (rear, front, baby cam, DVD, video iPOD, ZUNE, etc. or as a video
input for vehicles not equipped with factory DVD play or video AUX input capability) This input is dependent
upon the presence of a factory rear view camera or, the option for factory rear view camera can easily be
turned on at your dealership. If your vehicle is not equipped with a factory rear view camera and you desire to
use the video input provided by the LOCKPICK harness, programming instruction for your dealer are
available at http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMPROG.htm as an example.
• If you have the factory camera programming enabled, but do not plan to use a rear view camera, the GEN
5 LOCKPICK can prevent the screen from blanking during reverse operation. Set dip switch 3 DOWN for
NO REAR VIEW CAMERA PRESENT and your screen will not blank during reverse, even if it has been
updated for reverse camera operation. This allows you to use the video source provided by the
LOCKPICK for other purposes and not have the screen search for a rear view camera during reverse. If
you have a factory camera or will be adding an aftermarket reverse camera, place switch 3 in the UP
position to allow the screen to automatically switch to rear camera view while in reverse.
4. Accessory ignition Switched 12V power (RED)
• The switched ignition 12V source (ACC) RED wire, will turn off when the car is turned off. This is useful
to allow the installation of aftermarket cameras, DVD players, radar detector, etc. without worrying that
they may run down the vehicle battery when the car is turned off. It may also be connected to your
aftermarket Bluetooth kit as an accessory power connection. This output is capable of 2.5 amps.
• Aftermarket FRONT or BABY view cameras should be powered by the (ACC) RED wire.
NOTE: The 12V output from the GEN 5 ACC wire will turn off while the vehicle is in REVERSE gear
and for approximately 12 seconds after shifting out of Reverse gear. This is to allow simultaneous use
of multiple video inputs without conflict of video signals. .
5. Reverse camera power 12V (BLUE)
• The Blue reverse camera wire in you GEN 5 harness is designed to power your aftermarket rear view
camera or to allow you full on-demand control of your factory rear view camera.
**** NOTE: To install the GEN 5 Lockpick and control a FACTORY REAR VIEW CAMERA for use
while in DRIVE, etc. the BLUE Reverse camera power must be connected as the power source for your
factory camera which is only powered during Reverse. This is a relatively simple procedure in most
vehicles and is detailed in step 6 of this instruction set. This is only necessary if you want to be able to view
your factory camera while in DRIVE and not required for installation of the Lockpick in factory camera
equipped applications ****
NOTE: Do not connect the wires for power, ground or accessory power to the wiring of your car (the unit is full plug
and play for DVD, AUX, and NAV unblock). These outputs are provided as a BONUS to save you time when
connecting any additional accessories or video source.
***NOTE*** A. Set the switch setting desired before plugging the LOCKPICK box into the included harness. If you wish to
change the switch setting after plugging in the controller, the car and radio must be off, and the box unplugged
first. Then change the switch setting and plug it back in.
B. If you wish to utilize the LOCKPICK supplied video connection, the vehicle must be equipped with a factory
rear view camera, or have the rear view camera option enabled by your GM service center. This is a simple
update procedure in non-equipped vehicles and will activate the video input provided by the LOCKPICK (See
http://www.coastaletech.com/CAMPROG.htm for example.)
C. Vehicles manufactured AFTER 10/06 may require switch 1 to be in the down position. Vehicles manufactured
BEFORE 10/06 may desire to place switch 1 down if desired for automatic unlock of DVD and AUX input
jacks
Most installations will require a button press ( MUTE or WINDOW LOCKOUT – see operation instructions) for unlocking of particular
functions. If your vehicle can operate with switch 1 UP and still unlock DVD video with the mute button pressed 4x, it is preferable to use
this setting instead of the automatic setting of switch 1 DOWN. Switch 1 DOWN sets the LOCKPICK to suspend NAV map tracking
while viewing DVD video in motion as is required for this series of radios. Switch 1 UP continues NAV map tracking even while the DVD
is unlocked for viewing while in DRIVE.
If your NAV address input screen is not unlocked or blinks after attempting to unlock it by pressing the mute button 2x, unplug the
module and set switch 1 to the UP position. Your radio system uses this type of programming. Typically Cadillac Escalades will use the
switch 1 UP setting as well as some non-DVD play capable radios in GMC and Buick models.
DVD/AUX/CAM LOCKPICK SWITCH SETTING MODES VIDEO/CAM INPUT REQUIRES FACTORY CAMERA OR CAMERA PROGRAMMING ENABLED BY DEALER
1. ADVANCED VIDEO UNLOCK
SWITCH 1 DOWN IS REQUIRED SETTING FOR SOME VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER 10/06
LOCKPICK WILL AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK DVD AND AUX INPUT VIDEO WHILE STOPPED.
TO ENABLE VIDEO WHILE MOVING , PRESS MUTE 4X
VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEFORE 10/06 – THIS ADVANCED SETTING WILL AUTOMATICALLY UNBLOCK DVD AND AUX VIDEO
IN MOTION WITHOUT BUTTON PRESSES
2. MANUAL OPERATION OF DVD/AUX JACK UNLOCK
OPTIONAL SETTING FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEFORE 10/06
REQUIRED for full functioning in Escalades, and most non-DVD play capable GMC and BUICK radios
REQUIRES USER PRESS MUTE 4X TO UNLOCK DVD OR FACTORY AUX INPUT AFTER VEHICLE IS PLACED IN DRIVE
NOTE: PLACE SWITCH 3 DOWN IN ADDITION TO BLOCK THE RADIO FROM SWITCHING TO A REAR
CAMERA VIEW WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN REVERSE. *This can allow the radio to be reflashed by the dealer for rear camera operation and the camera input to be use by the
Lockpick and not have the picture blank when the car is put is Reverse. Do not place switch 3 down if you have a
factory rear view camera or will be adding one.
6. If you would like to enable full control and viewing of your FACTORY REAR VIEW CAMERA when in
DRIVE, attach the included FACTORY CAMERA OPTION wire to the 12V REVERSE wire labeled in your
GEN 5 harness. A crimp connector is already attached for your convenience. Route the wire along the edge of
the console and down to the small silver module under the passenger seat. Slide the seat all the way back to
view the connector on the front or side edge. Unplug the connector and cut the Blue wire pictured in the photo
below ( end wire, left side, from the back of the plug ). Crimp the Blue wire from your kit to the blue wire on
the connector. The other cut end of the wire in the factory harness should be insulated and left disconnected.
Do not connect the Lockpick Blue wire without cutting the factory wire or improper operation will occur. For
2008 H2 Hummer installations, run the GEN 5 Blue wire to the back of the vehicle and connect directly to the
rear view camera connector blue wire. Refer to website at: http://coastaletech.com/Hummer.htm for install
pictures. Other vehicles (Enclave, Acadia) may place the module in the rear as well. Refer to website at:
http://coastaletech/Acadia.htm for installation help. For 2008 H2 and all 2009 vehicle installations, run the
GMX-322 blue wire to the back of the vehicle and connect directly to the rear view camera connector blue
wire. Refer to website at: http://coastaletech.com/Hummer.htm for example install pictures.

GM LOCKPICK OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
The GM LOCKPICK will operate to unlock video on the front screen from your console video AUX input jack
(small jack on front of radio is not a video input), or from the front factory DVD player if equipped. If your car does not
have DVD play capability or AUX jacks, the LOCKPICK cannot create these functions for you. The navigation and radio
restrictions for address entry, points of interest, XM categories, CD folder, etc. are easily unlocked using factory button
presses. In addition, the LOCKPICK can turn on and control a separate video input which you can use for a rear view
camera, front cam, baby cam, iPOD, DVD etc. All functions are controlled with either the MUTE button on your steering
wheel, the WINDOW LOCKOUT button on your door.
After the Lockpick is installed in some vehicles, the DVD video may already be unlocked when you put
the car is DRIVE, but then will reblock when the car begins moving. This is because you have not activated the
Lockpick yet. To enable in motion video viewing for all applications, place the vehicle in DRIVE gear, then press
the MUTE button on your steering wheel four (4) times within 6 seconds. You will hear an audible beep to let you
know that you were successful. Once unblocked, video will be viewable on the front screen for the entire duration of
your trip or until you turn the function OFF. To turn the video OFF and return to standard blocked operation, press
the MUTE button 2 times. You will hear two audible beeps to let you know you have turned off the unlocking
technology. The function will also automatically turn off if the car is turned off. It’s as simple as that to have full control
of the video on your front screen.
The GM LOCKPICK will allow all other blocked functions of the navigation radio to be unlocked while in
motion including address entry, points of interest, XM category scrolling, CD information etc. To enable any blocked
nav/radio function, press the MUTE button two (2) times within 6 seconds and listen for an audible beep to let you know you were successful. For your convenience, the unlock function will automatically time out after approximately
60 seconds, or you may Press the MUTE button two (2) times again to immediately end the unlock. You will hear
two audible beeps to let you know that you have successfully turned it off.

LOCKPICK VIDEO INPUT OR PRESS MUTE 2 TIMES
The GM LOCKPICK can turn on an additional video input to your front screen if desired and allow its
viewing at any time. This can be used for camera input (rear, front, side, baby) or as an input for other video devices
(video iPod, computer etc.). This function is only available to vehicles which have a rear view camera or the option
enabled on their vehicle (this option can be added by your dealership within a few minutes if you don’t have a camera).
To turn on and activate the LOCKPICK video input for viewing on your front screen, press the WINDOW
LOCKOUT button FOUR (4) times within 6 seconds. Just like that, the video from your connected device is viewable
on your front screen. To turn it OFF, press the WINDOW LOCKOUT button four (4) times again or you can press
the mute button 2 times. The Lockpick can also power and control multiple cameras if desired. Included in your wiring
harness are connections for video input, REVERSE camera power and also FRONT/BABY cam power.
If controlling a REVERSE camera, use the included REV power supplied by the Lockpick to allow automatic and
anytime viewing of a backup camera. This is detailed in Step 6 of your installation instruction for factory camera control
or connects directly as the power for your aftermarket camera if adding to a non equipped vehicle. To activate the rear
view camera view and REVERSE power source, place the radio on AM, FM, etc. (anything but XM) and press the
window lockout button 4x. This will power the rear camera and display it on your screen. It will also activate
automatically when you put your car in reverse gear if desired (switch 3).
The GEN 5 can also power and control a front/baby cam. Connect your alternate camera power needs to the ACC
power connection on the Lockpick harness. Place the radio on the XM mode this time and perform the window button
press (4x) to activate the Lockpick video input. This will activate the radio video input and apply power to the ACC
power connection to allow anytime viewing of this video source. *Note – The Lockpick will delay approximately 12
seconds after the vehicle has been placed in Reverse or the Rear camera has been activated manually before it will send
power to the ACC power out connection. This is to allow for the factory camera in equipped vehicles to finish its view
before powering a second camera. Using the Lockpick supplied video input to view a video source or camera on your
front screen does not affect map tracking or any other function of your radio.
NOTE: When the Lockpick has been activated to allow the operator to enter an address
while in motion (MUTE 2x), the navigation map tracking is blocked momentarily to allow you the
opportunity to fully use your system. When you finish inputting your information, it is recommended
that you turn the NAV override function OFF manually by pressing again, the MUTE button 2x. This
allows the navigation system to reposition you on the map (normally 3-7 seconds) and all functions
operate as usual. The Lockpick will automatically time out and turn off after 1 minute even if you do not
turn it off but, if you turn it off manually as recommended, it will decrease the amount of time needed to
reposition again.
Also, activating DVD and AUX input video viewing (MUTE 4x) on the front screen will block
navigation map tracking while enabled on some vehicles. If your vehicle can allow DVD override with
switch 1 is in the UP position, then map tracking is NOT affected while activating and viewing
DVD/AUX video. If your vehicle requires advanced unlocking (switch 1 DOWN) to allow DVD
Lockpick functions to operate, then map tracking is blocked while DVD viewing is enabled. To restore
active map tracking, simply turn the DVD override function OFF by pressing the mute button 2x.
The GM LOCKPICK is compatible with ONSTAR equipped vehicles without error and does not affect
navigation systems when not being used.
Enjoy your GEN 5 LOCKPICK!!
