THE CITY added 1,000 beds totreat Covid-19patientswith theBandra-Kurla Complex (BKC)starting to admit patients fromSunday evening. The facility hasatleast500bedswithoxygensup-portforpatients.The new facility will serve

moderately ill patientswho re-quire symptomatic care but notintensive hospital support.Currently,Mumbaihasover4,500bedsformoderatelyandcriticallyillpatientsinpublichospitals,an-other 1,500 in private hospitals.With BKC’s 1,000 beds, the citywilloverallhave7,000bedsat itsdisposal, going a longway in re-ducingwaitingtimetogetadmit-tedinahospital.“We can immediately admit

400patientsinBKC.Thisfacilityisforsymptomaticpositivepatientsandthosewhosufferlowoxygenlevels,”saidAdditionalMunicipalCommissionerSureshKakani.Headded:“Thecurrentwaittimefora bed is a fewhours. Once a pa-tientdial1916,withinfourtofivehours, a bed ismade available.”But in somecases, thewait timeextendstilladay.Most patientswho develop
