The Magnifying Poem
When you first see a prompt,
You’ll know what to do.
Magnify once, and then
Another makes two.
The ideas you’ve circled
Are so very grand.
Think of your central idea,
And you’ve started your plan!
Looking Ahead
In Seventh Grade, the prompts
will have a more symbolic
picture and will want the writer
to think deeper.
“Sometimes we hit a bull’s eye.” This saying means
that we do something exactly right.
Write about a time you tried something that was
successful. Be sure and include what you learned
from your success.
Telescoping
Telescoping is the art of writing only about one
topic. This is what will make the terms, “going
off on a tangent” or “off topic,” more concrete
and meaningful to a student.
