The Magnifying Poem

When you first see a prompt,

You’ll know what to do.

Magnify once, and then

Another makes two.

The ideas you’ve circled

Are so very grand.

Think of your central idea,

And you’ve started your plan!

Looking Ahead

In Seventh Grade, the prompts

will have a more symbolic

picture and will want the writer

to think deeper.

“Sometimes we hit a bull’s eye.” This saying means

that we do something exactly right.

Write about a time you tried something that was

successful. Be sure and include what you learned

from your success.

Telescoping

Telescoping is the art of writing only about one

topic. This is what will make the terms, “going

off on a tangent” or “off topic,” more concrete

and meaningful to a student.
