Term 1 Week 10 Wednesday 2 April 2014
SAFE RESPONSIBLE RESPECTFUL
K-2 Assembly
2C will be presenting an item at this week’s K-2
Assembly, Friday 4 April AT 12.20pm. All welcome!
Unauthorised Parking
The school staff car park is not for anyone else to use.
There is a notice on the driveway gate that states this,
but recently we have had several parents using the
car park and grassed area to pick up or drop off their
children. It is very unsafe to do this. We would not
want anyone injured.
Book Fair
Our first Book Fair for 2014 will be in Week 1 next
term Tuesday 29 April – Friday 2 May. Students will
be able to peruse and/or buy books each day -
mornings from 9 -9.20am and 3.30 – 4pm each
afternoon (except Friday ).
The school receives books for our library dependent
upon the books purchased by parents so please
support us once again. Books make fabulous gifts
and it is also a great way to show your child that you
value literacy .
Variety Bash
The Variety Bash is coming to our school on
Wednesday 21 May. We are catering for breakfast for
350 participants so, we will be calling for lots of vol-
unteers and support in the coming weeks. If you think
you can contribute in some way please let myself, the
office staff or Ms Fennamore ( P & C President) know.
It will be discussed at the P & C meeting tonight if you
would like to come along. The school is eligible for a
healthy donation for this event and the proceeds will
be used to purchase literacy resources for your
children so please help out, if you are able.
Professional Learning
Mrs Sharwood and Mr Fagan both attended a one day
training day for Austswim recently. They now have to
accrue hours to qualify fully. This is to help with the
teaching of water safety and swimming to our
students. I think they were both waterlogged and
exhausted by the end of the day.
Year 6 Camp
Year 6 students will receive notes this week, for
Berry Sport & Recreation Camp in Week 6 next term
–Monday 2 June – Friday 6 June. An instalment
payment plan is available and any families seeking
financial assistance please let me know.
Athletics Carnival
Wollondilly Public School athletics carnival will be on
Tuesday 8 April at Hudson Park. We would love to
see as many parents as possible there to cheer on
the students. Everyone is reminded that whilst it is ok
to take photos of your child it is not ok to put them on
FaceBook or other social websites, if there are other
students in the photo.
Staff Development Day Term 2
Staff will return to work on Monday 28 April. Teachers
will attend a half day workshop at Bradfordville Public
School on teaching maths, using the new curriculum .
The afternoon will be spent planning teaching
programs for the term.
Students return on Tuesday 29 April. We hope all
families enjoy the break and associated Easter
festivities, with family and friends.

HARMONY DAY CELEBRATION- 24 MARCH 2014
On Monday (24 March), Wollondilly celebrated
Harmony Day with a special assembly in the hall.
Harmony day is a day where we show cultural respect
for everyone who calls Australia home-from the
traditional owners of this land to those who have come
from many countries around the world.
The hall was decorated with trees which were made by
each class in the school. The covered way (next to the
canteen) was also adorned with messages from
students expressing their personal expression of what
the word “harmony” meant to them.
We were entertained by Mrs Stelling’s, Mrs Brown’s
and the Year 6 dance groups who all presented
wonderful dances representing our indigenous culture
and the meaning of harmony.
Individual students presented items on their family
background and the cultures of their families. These
included: Hayley Dawson (Italy), Jamie Coad (Liberia),
Zac Hart (China), Liliana Gerstner (Croatia), Aji Thayyil
(India), Amelie Sherwin (Canada) and Alex Poka (New
Zealand) who also performed the Maori Haka war
dance with some of his class mates.
We enjoyed the story of Tiddalik the frog, a traditional
Aboriginal dream time story which describes how
Tiddalik was tricked into releasing all the water he had
stored in his belly to restore the land from drought.
A great thank you to all those students who donated a
gold coin on the day. We raised over $260 which was
donated to the Queensland Drought Relief Fund.
An enormous thanks must go to Mrs Brown and Mr
Crossley for all their hard work and preparation in
making the celebration so successful and to all classes
who created such interesting and diverse trees to
decorate the hall.

Try and make all of your doctor, dentist, and other appointments after 4:00 p.m. The end of the day is just as important as the beginning.
Newsletters and homework reminders and other information are distributed.
Sharing/retelling and review of the day’s activities often happen.
Students may participate in various jobs to keep their classroom tidy.
Students get into the habit of staying at school until dismissal time – again important in all aspects of life.
Leaving 20 minutes late from school each day, is the equivalent of missing 11 school days in a year.
