TID is celebrating Public Power Week Oct. 4-10, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 48 million people across the country.

TID began serving electricity in 1923 and since then, our mission has remained the same; provide our customers with reliable and affordable power while being good stewards of our resources and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

TID not only works for the people in the communities we serve, we are the communities we serve. Our customers are our owners and, by being a customer-owned utility, TID doesn’t answer to investors demanding a profit. Local ownership has allowed us to make decisions that benefit all our customers and has better positioned us to conform to the regulations being imposed on utilities across the nation and especially in California. Please, join us in celebrating National Public Power Week on Oct. 8, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at our office located at 333. E. Canal Drive in Turlock. There will be food, activities, prizes and fun for the whole family!

In addition, learn valuable energy and water saving tips. TID will be hosting a free energy efficiency light exchange. Bring up to 3 regular incandescent light bulbs and exchange them for 3 brand new energy efficient LEDs - FOR FREE! Also, the City of Turlock will be available to answer questions and provide tips for water conservation measures you can use at home.

Fall 2015 |

With the winter months rapidly approaching, it’s important to take a look at the condition of the trees surrounding your home. Trees that are placed too close to power lines may create fire and safety hazards, as well as cause power outages.

As a California public utility, TID has an obligation to provide safe and reliable electric service. The state grants TID permission to maintain its electric system, which includes clearing trees and other vegetation that may encroach upon overhead power lines and equipment, as well as pose a risk to public safety and service reliability.

TID periodically trims or removes trees that are near power lines to prevent unsafe

conditions and to maintain reliable service for our customers.

However, TID is not responsible for trimming trees and vegetation from low voltage overhead service lines that connect to our customer’s homes and businesses. Trimming of trees and vegetation from these service wires is the customer’s responsibility.

TID will arrange to de-energize your overhead service line so this work can be performed safely. If you have any questions regarding tree trimming please call TID at (209) 883-8435.

Tree trimming helps prevent power outages

For more information regarding tree trimming, call 883-8435.If you are experiencing a power outage, call TID’s 24-hour

service line at 883-8301.

Here are some tips to help you avoid being scammed :

• Always be skeptical of pushy people who demand payment or personal information, especially if they threaten to turn off your power.

• TID does not use e-mail, social media or text messaging to solicit payments.

• TID does not solicit payments after regular business hours, on weekends or holidays when TID’s offices are closed and we never insist on a pre-paid card for payment.

• When facing disconnection, making your payment in person at a TID office is always the preferred method of settling your account.

• TID employees drive white vehicles with the blue TID logo on the side and our employees have company issued identification badges.

• Don’t trust that the number on your caller ID is legitimate; if you are ever in doubt of the identity of the person on the phone or at your door claiming to represent TID, please call us at 209-883-8222 to confirm their identity and purpose.
