The Winter version of the Olympics began in 1908 when figure skating made an appearance at the Summer Games in London.
The Games returned in 1920 at Antwerp, Belgium, where the figure skating returned and the ice hockey was added as a medal event.
Short brief history Winter Olympic Games
The Coastal Cluster, along the Black Sea in the Adler district of the City of Sochi, is where most events will take place during the 2014 Olympic Games. The opening and closing ceremonies, all medal presentations, ice hockey, figure skating and all the other indoor sporting events will take place right along the coast in the "Olympic Park."
Nearby, the International Broadcast Centre and press building will be the center of the Olympics for the thousands of media members descending on Sochi. There's also an athlete's village in the Coastal Cluster.
The Coastal Cluster was basically an empty patch of land as recently as 2005, and now it'll be the center of the sporting world. Let's take a closer look at some venue.

THE EVENTS
The objective of ice hockey is to shoot the puck into the goal net and score a point. Whichever team scores the most points wins.
The rules are Equipment: To play organized hockey, players will need the essential equipment:
skates, helmet (with visor or cage), mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, athletic supporter (jock), shin pads, hockey socks, jersey, and hockey stick
Goaltenders have their own category of equipment: goalie helmet (cage required), chest and shoulder protectors, athletic supporter (jock), hockey pants, blocker, glove, goalie stick, goalie pads, and goalie skates.
For on ice equipment, there are two (2) nets at each end of the ice and pucks.Game info: Carey Price stopped 24 shots, and the attack lit up the lamp once in each period, as Canada cruised to a 3-0 victory over Sweden in Sunday's gold-medal game in Sochi. Neither Canada nor Sweden had lost a game heading into Sunday, which guaranteed one of the pair would become the first unbeaten Olympic champions since 1984.
Event 1: Ice Hockey
Equipment: granite balls (GB), brooms and warm clothes to stay warm
Step 1: slider slides the GB. They have to release their stone be Step 2: Teammates with brooms follow the stone and if they think
that the stone will run out of speed before it reaches its target they brush furiously in front of it. The brushing alters the speed and direction of the stone by melting a fine layer of ice to minimize the friction just in front.
They have to get the ball to the target and the more closer to the center, the more points.
Event 2: Ice Curling
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
Australia competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Soshi, Russia from 7 to 23 February 2014. Australia's team consisted of 60 athletes competing in 11 sports, which represents the largest Winter Olympic team the country has ever sent.
Lindia Lassila She was one of only four women left
in the contest for the medals and it was a high-risk strategy but she was determined to attempt a fiendishly difficult quadruple-twisting triple somer
Belarussian veteran Alla Tsuper had already landed a triple-twisting triple somersault and scored 98.01 points, but such was the degree of difficulty of Lassila’s jump that she still scored 72.12 points, which moved her into second place with one skier left to jump, ensuring she would get a medal sault. A Chinese world champ scored a 83.5 and got silver medal.
