Whether you are a recent graduate from any Gamma Phi Beta collegiate chapter, busy

with family and work, or a recent empty nester – there is a place for you in our alumnae chapter. As collegiate members, we made a lifetime commitment, and staying involved and connected to our sisterhood as alumnae is important, not only for Gamma Phi Beta, but also for ourselves!

I remember being an active collegiate and hearing the phrase “You get out what you put in.” Those words still ring true to me today. I personally have had many years in which I have not been involved as an alumna, and I thought I was far too busy with motherhood, work and life. But I realized I was missing my friends and being a part of something that I truly enjoyed: Gamma Phi Beta.

Over the last year, I loved CONNECTing with my sisters at our wine tasting at the Candle Club. I enjoyed making an IMPACT at the chapter house by helping the collegiates with mock-recruitment, and I was honored to meet our 50-year members at last year’s Founders Day, where we SHINEd with more than 125 women in attendance.

There is no need to hold an office or come to every event, but we would love to see you – purely because we want our sisters in Gamma Phi Beta to get involved, to be a support system for one another and to have fun! Be sure to join us this year at one of our planned events as we continue to CONNECT, IMPACT and SHINE in Wichita!

HOUSE CORPORATION BOARD UPDATE

If you haven’t been by the Beta Chi chapter house lately, then you need to check it out! Things have been humming there all summer and with lots of

changes – everything from major improvements to general “sprucing up” for Recruitment. Under the watchful eye of HCB Property Manager, Mylene Atnip and her husband Mike, the Beta Chi chapter now has a newly poured parking lot, all new landscaping and outside décor.

It’s almost impossible to list everything that has been done under Mylene and Mike’s guidance. Mike has served as our manager for both the paving and landscape projects, made countless improvements and repairs to both the outside and inside of the house as well as well as patching and painting several interior walls. Mylene organized two work weekends in August for the HCB members and any other sisters who wanted to help where we painted and cleaned, and painted some more to give the house a much-needed facelift.

Lori Marceau and her son Cole donated their time to paint the walls in the basement. Then helped paint the patio fence to match the color of the house, while Anne Corriston and her friend, Danny, put in many hours painting trim in the chapter room and hallway. Special thanks go out to Janet Rhodes who “blinged” the house bathroom with all sorts of fun and functional accessories. Janet also contributed several large ceramic pots for plantings on the front porch and patio.

Another special thank you goes out to Jill Dobbins, who commissioned a polished metal replica of the Gamma Phi Beta badge that is now hanging over the

fireplace in the chapter living room. Be sure you take time to go inside the house to have a look – it is simply stunning!

Some of these changes have been talked about by HCB members for many years, and we were finally able to make them a reality this summer. With some help from alumna sister Janet Wright, the Board was able to secure a loan to finance these much-needed improvements. The repairs and renovations were long overdue and the entire board is pleased we could turn these plans into reality and provide a home of which all of our Beta Chi sisters can be truly proud. I know I have not mentioned everyone who contributed to the projects we’ve accomplished this summer, so next time you see a member of HCB, please give them your thanks. I’m grateful for this wonderfully generous, talented, hard-working and fun group of women that are serving Gamma Phi Beta with me – and the husbands, sons and friends as well! They are truly the BEST. In IIKE, Beth Harlenske, HCB board president

WICHITA ALUMNAE PANHELLENIC UPDATE

The Wichita Alumni Panhellenic held its annual fundraising tea and card party at Botanica in

April. Proceeds from this year’s event enabled the Wichita Alumni Panhellenic to award scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to three amazing young women from different area high schools. The scholarship recipients were:• Becca Andres, daughter of Holmes & Lahna Andres, from Maize High School, with plans to attend Kansas State University.

• Emily Rausch, daughter of Neil & Rose Rausch, from Goddard High School, with plans to attend Wichita State University.• Amanda Simon, daughter of Joseph & Julie Simon, from Garden Plain High School, with plans to attend Emporia State.

Funding for the scholarships is also generated from an annual holiday greenery sale. Orders will begin in October, and you will receive an email that will include a color brochure of the items available for sale. A nice feature of this fundraiser is the ability to order items and have them directly shipped to the recipient. So if you have family or friends living out of town and would like to send them some holiday cheer, the direct delivery option is very convenient. The fresh evergreen wreaths, garlands and other holiday decorations will be delivered right after Thanksgiving, just in time for the holidays. And, the revenue generated goes toward next year’s scholarships. Contact Lori Manning Marceau to place your order, 371-3557 or [email protected].

We are still looking for items to include in our silent auction/raffle. If you have any

items, goods or services you would like to donate, please contact the alumnae group at

[email protected] or Haley (Staats) Parker at [email protected].

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to bid on these silent auction items!
