Context: response to a need

}  WGClimate: “The Joint CEOS/CGMS Working Group on Climate is the body of major space agencies responsible for guiding the implementation of the architecture for space-based climate monitoring in response to Global Climate Observing System (GCOS).”

}  ECV Inventory: “In response to the climate monitoring needs as formulated by GCOS the goal of WGClimate is to improve the systematic availability of Climate Data Records [CDRs] through the coordinated implementation, and further development of the architecture for climate monitoring from space.”

Aims

}  Capture the largest possible number of quality controlled current* and future** CDRs responding to requirements for GCOS ECVs }  WGClimate members à Focal Points (Agency), Responders

* current: already produced, based on past/present missions ** future: planned and committed, but not yet produced, based on past/present/future missions

}  Get the most accurate information concerning the data records }  Questionnaire + Guide: answers = fields of Inventory

}  Ensure completeness and consistency of information provided }  Individual support to Responders + 1-to-1 verification check

ECV Inventory: thorough and reliable source of information Gap analysis process and coordinated action plan (WGClimate) Agencies (directly and through WGClimate feedback) Users (effective and potential)
