residents having a first language other than English. It boasts North America's best Asian dining scene. Restaurants in Vancouver are known for their diversity, use of local ingredients, and pairings with British Columbia wine and craft beer. Of course the Seafood is unsurpassed in excellence! The Westin Bayshore is a downtown Vancouver hotel located on Coal Harbour, adjacent to Stanley Park, with fantastic views of the coastline, the distant mountains, and the park. Shopping, dining, entertainment, arts and culture, are just steps away, as are numerous recreational activities in Stanley Park. The Summer dates will allow you to make this meeting a family vacation! The Hotel's conference center has been renovated, and the new décor, and meeting/exhibit rooms renovations, offer a comfortable, beautiful, and functional area for our WSAUA meeting. Dr. Chris Porter, and the program committee, have planned a comprehensive CME program that will include practical urological practice presentations, state of the art lectures, cutting edge innovations in technology and research, and the resident's bowl. Dr. Peter Black, General arrangements chairperson, and his committee, have planned a wonderful social program which will feature the fantastic culinary delights that Vancouver has to offer. Carrie Black and Gloria Carlile have planned a great program for the Spouses, highlighting some of Vancouver's unique venues. We hope to see you in Vancouver soon! Rob Carlile
THE WESTERN SECTION AMERICAN UROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION, INC.
2017 is here and hopefully going well for all of you in the WSAUA. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your 2017 WSAUA President. I have enjoyed serving in the Western Section in various capacities, and am happy to be given the opportunity for further service in this wonderful organization.
The 2016 WSAUA meeting on Kauai was very successful and it was enjoyed by all who attended. After the grueling 2016 US Presidential election, many of you may be considering escaping to Canada, our 2017 meeting, in Vancouver, BC offers the perfect opportunity to do so! It will be held Aug 6-10, 2017 at the Westin Bayshore. This will
thbe the 12 time the Western Section has met in British Columbia, Canada. The first time was in Vancouver in 1929, with the last B.C. meeting being in 2011 also in Vancouver. My first WSAUA meeting was in 1991 in Vancouver, at the Pan Pacific Hotel at Canada Place, when I was a Urology resident. As many of you know, Vancouver is a wonderful sea-port city with a temperate climate, rated the Top destination in Canada by Trip Advisor in 2016. The mountains meet the ocean here, with both outstanding opportunities for outdoor adventure and the sophisticated amenities of a world-class city. The city's ocean side location, plenty of green space, the mountains being 20 minutes north of downtown, allows for many recreational opportunities. Vancouver is ethnically diverse, with 52% of its

Westin Bayshore
Our 93rd Annual Meeting is August 6-10 at the stunning Westin Bayshore in Vancouver! Start working on your abstracts, essays, posters and videos for submission. The Abstract Deadline: MARCH 20. You can NOW submit on-line at www.wsaua.org Vancouver is lovely during the summer, we again expect a hotel sell-out, so be sure to reserve your rooms early!
We invite all educational institutions to be involved in the WS meetings - as moderators, panelists, and state of the art lecturers. Please write to Jeannie or myself and let us know if you have an interest. All of the program chairs have been notified and we again expect a tremendous response. We recognize that we are dependent on the experts in our Section to deliver an educational program that is second to none!
Continuing education is important for us to respond to the needs of our patients. We need to stay relevant and responsive to change and be aware of new therapies and standards of practice that may impact our profession. Urology is unique as its landscape is encompassing more new areas of treatment and surgeries in our field.
Meeting face to face with colleagues is essential to create brainstorming of new ideas and stay connected to the mainstream thoughts and be able to share your experiences with others. You cannot get this experience on the internet or text books. Personal and mutual sharing is very necessary in our age of technology and transitions. The basics of human contact with our colleagues is as important as our contact with our patients.
We are again excited to host our 5th Annual Resident's Bowl during the meeting - A new theme this year - Resident’s “Rock and Roll” Bowl... don't miss it!
There are many opportunities for award recognition. For Residents, there are Scholarship Awards, Resident Research Essay Contest, Health Policy Essay Contest, and History Essay Contest. There are also award opportunities for the Poster Session Awards, and Trick of the Trade and Bizarre Case Awards during the Round Table Program. Submit to win and enhance your resume!
For Practicing Urologists, there are just as many opportunities for awards. The essay contests include: Research Essay, Health Policy Essay, and History Essay. Other awards include Poster Session Awards and Trick of the Trade and Bizarre Case Awards.
I hope you will be in the moment and attend the Western Section AUA meeting in Vancouver – your presence as a member is VERY IMPORTANT! We look forward to your submissions!
See you in Vancouver!2
