    Introduction and Citation:

    This report covers the period from Sat 23-8-2014 until Fri 29-8-2014. However, it is worth point-

    ing out the following:

    1. Fatalities of the regime, the Army of National Defense (Shabiha), Lebanese Hizbullah, Iraqi and

    Iranian Militias are not included in the reported death toll.

    2. These gures are not nal in any way, and they are subject to continuous and periodic scrutiny

    by centers activists, the data base administrators and the eld documentation team.

    3. Figures may differ between reports, even within the same district, and this can be referred to the

    territorial audit that would reveal places of errors and faults, as well as the continuous follow up to

    identify undistinguished martyrs whenever they are identied.

    Martyrs of the Week:

    During this period, the Violation Documentation Center in Syria managed to document (442) martyrs

    in all the Syrian governorates, (398) of whom were documented by names, while (44) i.e.(10 %) of the

    total number, were unidentied bodies because they had turned into carnages.

    (3) other unidentied martyrs were documented by photos, (4) were documented by videos and (37)

    were documented only by witnessing.

    First: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Governorates

    Damascus Suburbs governorate witnessed the fall of the largest number of martyrs, as the total num-

    ber was (109 martyrs) i.e. (21 %), followed by Aleppo (91 martyrs) i.e. (21 %), then Daraa (57 mar-

    tyrs) followed by Idlib (36 martyrs).

    Second: the Distribution of Martyrs according to Death Causes

    (185) martyrs i.e. (42 %) died as a result of re shots and sniper bullets, whereas (153) of them i.e. (35

    %) died because of air shelling and barrel bombs. Moreover, (45) martyrs i.e. (11 %) killed because

    of artillery shelling and mortar shelling.

    VDC has also documented two martyrs who died by the regimes chemical and toxic attack on Ar-

    been, Damascus Suburbs.

    Fifth: the Distribution of Martyrs according to the Category (Civilian/ Noncivilian)

    (281) civilian martyrs were reported i.e. (64 %) of the total number of martyrs, while only (161) ght-

    ers fell i.e. (36.5 %) including (2) children under 18.

    Sixth: Other

    The Violation Documentation Center has documented during this period the killing of (19) martyrs

    at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS/Daash) including (12) civilians, among them

    (2) child male, (1) adult female and (1) child female, and seven ghters of the Free Army and other

    ghting factions.
