South Ohio August Issue Places to go, things to do, people to see in South Ohio

TRANSCRIPT

Fair Time!(While Mike Arnold is on vacation at his

home state fair party - an annual event inMissouri that he hasn’t missed in 10 years) Iwould like to visit with you a bit.

As the county fairs and summer festivalswind down to make way for fall and harvestfestivals and activities, many are returningfrom vacations and weekend getaways tostart the back-to-school process.

August is the month I take inventory of thewardrobe situation and take advantage of backto school sales. No, I don’t have kids in schoolanymore, but the grandkids make up for it. We justwelcomed our 38th on my birthday.

Welcome to our world, KhloeBarnett. She weighed 7 lbs, 3oz. and was 20” long whenborn. Proud parents areMichael Jr. and AmandaBarnett.

The calendar tells me there are only a coupleweeks before school will be in session and thesports activities, fund raisers, and school concertswill also fill the days ahead.

I see a lot of tired faces as I watch families strollby our fair booths at various county fairs. I’msure this summer’s heat has been hard on many.I encourage everyone to brouse through this lastissue before school begins and get one last week-end getaway in before turning in the swimsuitsand picnic baskets for schoolbooks or fall homeimprovement plans. Enjoy “Pink Days” at KingsIsland and take a chance at winning a brand new2012 Honda. See Page 7 for details.

Take the whole family to the Miami CountyFair for entertainment, Pig Races and lots of foodand fun. See pages 9-11.

Magic Mountain in Columbus celebratesFamily Night on Fridays and unlimited mini golfor laser tag on Saturdays. See pages 14-15. Untilnext month, featuring Fall Home Improvement...

There are several unusual events and attractionstaking place at at the Miami County Fair this year.

If you've never been to a pig race, you're in for areal treat! Swifty and his friends don't do it for themoney, what they really want is that Oreo cookie, waiting on a silver platter at the finish line!

They run as fast as their little legs can take 'em,and then it's back to nap time to be ready for thenext race! Swifty Swine travels all over the UnitedStates, bringing this unique form of family enter-tainment to their fans. They criss-cross the countryin their shiny red trailer equipped with amenitiesnot found in any barnyard.

Be sure to get there early to get a good seat! The little piggies spend their youth at the race

track, but never fail to bring home the bacon. Theircareers last a single season, before they eat them-selves out of a job. While some little piggies hangout in a muddy barn yard getting fat for their tripto the stockyards, Swifty Swine Productions, RacingPigs are busy shaken the bacon around a 150 ft. ovaltrack at some of the nations biggest fairs, festivals, and special events.

Audiences will go hog wild as little Swifty (theswimming pig) plunges into the tank in an effort tobreak the current world record. These little super-stars, enjoy such luxuries as air-conditioning, heat-ing and their very own piggy potty. There’s even acolor TV and stereo for the little piggies leisuretime. They are bathed daily by their handlers, andwhile in training chow down or should we say pig-out on high protein peg pellets, keeping them in tiptop condition. If this isn’t enough, they are visitedpromptly every 30 days by a veterinarian whochecks them over from snout to tail and updatestheir travel documents.Their every need is attendedto by their handlers at their side 24 hours a day.
