Congratulations to our children who sang with the choir. I am grateful for the leadership of all of our children’s choirs and thankful for Rachel Norton’s abilities and spirits as she directs and coordinates the work of this important area of ministry. We are quickly approaching the end of year program for our children’s choirs and for the various interest tracks that have been provided for them. That program is Sunday night, May 7, at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. This year we are adding our Youth Choir to the list of those sharing their gifts in that service. Sandra and I did not get to be here Sunday afternoon because of a previous commitment. We slipped out after the morning worship service to drive back to He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:3

MUSIC FOR SUNDAY

RICKY'S COMMUNICATION I understand that the Kentucky Baptist Convention All State Children’s Choir did a great job in their concert Sunday afternoon. Tennessee. Our son, Austin, is the conductor of the Jackson Choral Society and their spring concert was Sunday afternoon. We got to hear a community choir and orchestra sing and play a wide swath of songs with the theme, “Of Kings and Queens”. You can imagine the possibilities with such a title. They sang Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Unforgettable from Nat King Cole, and Thriller from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. They finished up the program with songs of the King of Kings – All Creatures of Our God and King, The King of Love My Shepherd Is and Ride On, King Jesus. It was a great program and we enjoyed it immensely. But, of course, you know what we enjoyed the most – getting to see our son do his thing. It is an interesting thing to observe your son do what you do. As he conducted, I watched the precision with which he gave cues to both the choir and the orchestra. I watched his directions for dynamics and both saw and heard how his choir and instrumentalists responded to his guidance. I watched him sweat (I know he got that from his dad). I felt the pride that a dad feels when he sees his child accomplish something in far greater fashion than himself. And I had to pause to think……..isn’t that what we are all supposed to be about? We all want better for our children than what our best could ever be. I have found that that doesn’t come in giving “things”. I believe it comes in giving the most important lessons and in helping establish priorities. Each week we have the opportunity to invest in our children and in our students with the things of the Lord – those are the best things, the most needful things. Through out scripture we are taught to pass down the ways of the Lord to our children and to our children’s children. Those children who sang at First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon were experiencing some of those “most important” things as they sang of the wonder of God’s love. I am grateful for such an investment. May we be vigilant to place before our children the kind of example that comes in lives committed and dedicated to the glory of God and His kingdom. Thank you in advance for those of you who are helping us host the KMEA Honors Choirs this Friday, April 28. I know it will be an exciting day and a wonderful time to express our appreciation and love for our children and their teachers and leaders. I am grateful for you all and thank the Lord that He allows me to serve alongside you in and through First Baptist Church. See you in rehearsals. Have a great week!
