Chaplaincy Team Fundraising Disco
Calling all Year 7 & 8!
The Chaplaincy team are running a disco to raise funds for our school charities on Friday 23rd Feb 7—9pm. Please do come along to support this worthy cause! Boys from Parkside and Reeds have also been invited!
Safe Use of Social Media Members of 7CJ took the Year Assembly this week and their theme was how to use
social media safely. We think this poem sums the topic up perfectly!
The dangers of social media Social media is a dangerous place
Check with your parents just in case
You can’t take back what you put online
Don’t relax and think its fine
Inappropriate content can be banned
Sometimes you need a helping hand
Social media is shown in different ways
Don’t get yourself into an awful faze

@NotreDame_Trips Year 2 Trip to Pizza Express
This week Year 2 had a fantastic morning at Pizza Express, Cobham. They learnt how to make their famous pizzas and were even able to bring their very own creations home for tea!
Prep Trip to The Polka Theatre Yesterday morning the whole Prep
school were treated to a wonderful trip to the Polka Theatre to see The Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen and adapted by Mike Kenny.
Our imaginations soared as a dusty attic was transformed into the Snow Queen’s icy palace, and we followed their epic journey of self-discovery, as they tried to save Kai from the icy spell of the Snow Queen’s cold kiss. Could Gerda melt his heart before he forgot her forever?

@NotreDame_Art Year 6 Inspired by Monet ‘In art, Year 6 have been looking at techniques linked to impressionism using
Monet as their inspiration. They looked at colour, space, texture, layering, brushstrokes and representation of form in their paintings.
Sienna – ‘It was fun and interesting learning about this style in art. I learnt how to blend colours directly on the page, which I haven’t done before.’
Isabella A – ‘I really enjoyed it because I haven’t painted a Monet before, I think they all turned out really well.’
Eva A – ‘It was fun and I enjoyed learning how to paint in this style. I would definitely try it again!’
‘Looking at all the finished paintings year 6 produced, they wouldn’t be out of place in the Louvre, the girls did a wonderful job and picked up the techniques exceptionally well!’

CHEMISTRY COMPETITION
On Tuesday 16th January a team of our Year 9, 10 and 11 girls took part in a Chemistry competition organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry. They had to complete a number
of practical challenges and then answer a Chemistry quiz. Fourteen schools in the local area took part and our girls rose to the challenge by finishing in fourth place. This was a fantastic effort since they were up against some very tough opposition. So I would like to extend well deserved congratulations to Isabel K, Anja L, Kayleigh M and Emma G for this great achievement.

Year 8 French Drama Workshop
On Tuesday French participants of year 8 took part in a French/Drama workshop along with Duke of Kent School. In this workshop, a lady came in to entertain us with her interactive drama story of how the three musketeers became four…
It was very educational and year 8 thoroughly enjoyed the experience as it was full of action, movement, and participation from the crowd. We all gained a lot of new French vocabulary. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys some humorous acting from both friends and teachers! Year 8 all loved the experience, and hope to be able to do something like it again.

ND Hosts Classics Conference
We were delighted to host a classics conference yesterday afternoon in the Montaigne Theatre. Latin scholars from local schools were also invited to listen to talks from UCL lecturer Anne Tuttle Mackay and
Professor Stephen Oakley.
First Reconciliation
Sophia A and Isabel E (both in Y3) had their First Reconciliation last Friday. They were both
nervous but very excited! It was a very special occasion and a very important day for them ahead of their First Holy Communion in May.

Prep Library News
Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone
‘Once an adventure digs its claws in, there’s not an awful lot you can do about it. Especially where magic is involved…’
Written by our former Patron of Reading, Abi Elphinstone’s wonderful new book Sky Song is now available in the shops. Aimed at children aged 8 upwards, this is a book of snowy fantasy, set in the kingdom of Erkenwald where ‘whales glide between icebergs, wolves hunt on the tundra and polar bears roam the glaciers’. This is the story of Eska, a girl who breaks free from a music box, which is cursed, and a boy called Flint, whose inventions might possibly change the fate of Erkenwald forever. An action-packed adventure, the story is set in an icy fantasy world where the children must journey throughout the land in search of an ancient song with the power to repel the Ice Queen.
Sky Song has been very well received, by both readers and other authors alike. Lauren St John ‘A shimmering thrill-ride of a book. I loved every page.’ Katherine Rundell ‘Abi Elphinstone’s books are full of adventure, wit, heart, and above all, bravery.’
Simon & Schuster Children's UK | ISBN 9781471146077 | Jan 2018 £6.99
We are delighted that a copy of Sky Song is now on its way to the Prep Library!

Senior Library News ‘Get ready to share the magic! Harry Potter Book Night, the most magical night of the year, returns on Thursday 1st February 2018. Fans of all ages are invited to celebrate J.K. Rowling’s wonderful series – and pass the magic on to young readers who have still to discover these unforgettable books and the unforgettable worlds created within. For 2018, the thrilling theme is Fantastic Beasts, the original cornucopia of mythical creatures, which sit at the very heart of the Harry Potter stories.’
https://harrypotter.bloomsbury.com/uk/harry-potter-book-night/
Details of events being held and how to get involved are included on the website. There are also fun challenges, name generators, a glossary, potted history and some interesting facts which we will be sharing with students …
In the Senior Library, we have our very own Harry Potter corner with colourful compendiums on the characters, creatures and film series, as well as a biography of J.K. Rowling. On the shelves, we have the complete Harry Potter series and Quidditch through the Ages. For the linguists, we hold copies of The Philosopher’s Stone in Latin and The Chamber of Secrets in French.
We hope that on Thursday 1st February Dobby will make another guest appearance at Notre Dame School!
