‘EncountEring JEsus’

Sermon Series: Each week through

October 23, Pastor Weis will present his

"Encountering Jesus” sermon series to share

some profound, powerful, personal and

miraculous ways Jesus was involved in his

and Karen’s lives over the past year and a

half. Prepare to encounter Jesus like you

never have before.

Growth Gathering: Starting Sunday,

September 18, Pastor Weis will also offer a

special Growth Gathering between Sunday

morning services called “Encountering Jesus:

Discussion,” which will further explore the

“Encountering Jesus” sermon series. We will

meet at 10:15am on Sundays in the parlor, for

about 30 minutes. On Sunday, September 25,

the Growth Gathering will welcome Peace

members Chris Holcomb and Kalyn

Froeschle, who will talk about their summer

mission trips to Nicaragua and Swaziland,

respectively.

For Kids: A children ’s Growth Gathering will

meet weekly at 10:15am on Sundays, as well,

to allow parents to attend the “Encountering

Jesus: Discussion.” Kids will meet in the lower

-level Youth Center.

Peace Women in Mission Potluck: All

women of Peace are invited to a potluck

presented by Peace Women in Mission in the

church parlor on Monday, September 19, at

6:30 pm. Keith Minda, our former youth

director, will be guest speaker. Special guest

is DCE Billy Cmeyla, our new youth director.

Come hear what Mr. Minda has to say and get

acquainted with Mr. Cmeyla. Bring a dish to

pass and your own table service.

church for God’s blessings upon our mission

Free Concert: At 7pm on Saturday,

October 15, Peace Church will host the

Concordia University Chicago Wind

Symphony as it performs under the direction

of Dr. Richard Fischer as part of its fall tour.

Peace is also seeking accommodations for

the 100-plus musicians. Responsibilities

include housing, a snack, breakfast and

Worship Night in America: Join us as we

present “Worship Night in America” on

Tuesday, October 25, at 7pm at Peace

Church. Hosted by contemporary Christian

singer Chris Tomlin and presented by Peace

Church, we will gather to watch the movie

presentation of “Worship Night in America: An

Evening of Unity and Prayer for Our Country.

“This will play exclusively and one night only

in theaters and select churches nationwide —

and Peace will be one of them if we sell at

least 75 tickets! Experience the sold-out event

filmed at Madison Square Garden, plus

exclusive backstage footage and interviews

that will inspire, challenge and encourage

your family, church and community. Tickets

for fellowship, worship and Bible study starting at 5pm.

Bible Study Leaders Needed: We are currently looking

for Bible study leaders for our Sunday nights. We could

use leaders for Grades 6-8, as well as a few for high

Retreats: The NEW FALL RETREAT DATE IS NOVEMBER 11–13. Stay tuned for more

details. Our winter retreat is January 13-14, and the spring retreat is May 5-6. Two

retreats are covered in the confirmation fee. Students can attend all three, but need to

pay for the third retreat. See Mr. Cmeyla for details.

Communion Workshops: The next communion workshops are scheduled for

October 22 and April 8, from 10am-2pm in the church parlor. We ask parents to

Families First: Wellspring Lutheran

Services/Child & Family Auxiliary is an

organization that helps support families of

foster children who are in their care. Another

part of their ministry is the Families First

Program, which helps families in trouble stay

together and need foster care. There will be

an ingathering of cleaning supplies for the

families at the auxiliary's meeting on Sunday,

September 25. If you'd care to help by

contributing any cleaning supplies, please

place them in the Peace Church Donation

Center (lower level) bin designated Child &

Family Auxiliary. Thank you.

OPPORTUNITIES

SBC Volunteers Needed: Our Sunday

morning children's ministry has many

opportunities to serve: storyteller, family

greeter, craft leader and snack leader.

Volunteers are needed for 9am and 11:15am

services. There is flexibility in how often you

serve: twice a month, once a month, every six

weeks, etc. Please prayerfully consider

serving in this ministry. Interested? Contact

COMMUNITY CORNER

LWML Fall Rally: Join Peace LWML ladies

as they attend the Saginaw Valley LWML Fall

Rally at 8:30am Saturday, October 1, at

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Saginaw. The

$6 event registration includes lunch.

Wellspring Lutheran Services will talk about

the Family Preservation Program. During the

rally, an ingathering of diapers sizes 3-5 and

cleaning supplies will be collected. Details:

Women’s Retreat: WinSome Women

Christian Retreats will be held at the Grand

Hotel on Mackinac Island on October 18-19,

October 19-20 and October 20-21 (each

retreat is a day and a half). The cost is $202

per person (two to three ladies in a room) or

$182 each (four in a room). The cost includes

the conference fee, roundtrip ferry, room,

dinner, breakfast, lunch, taxes, gratuities and

baggage handling. Register at

Nursery Care - Children up to 35 months in age meet in the room next to the south church entrance (Arthur Hill side) just before our Sunday morning services. Please plan to bring children at 8:45am and 11am.

“Pencil Tree Bags” - Parents of Preschool Age Children

Please feel free to take a bag off the Pencil Tree in the narthex. It has some items in there to help keep your child "quietly busy" during church. Please RETURN the bag after the service, as you found it, so it can be enjoyed over and over again.

Adult Bible Studies - Opportunities to Gather, Grow & Go

Looking for a Bible study? As disciples at Peace, we all have an opportunity to join a small group to help one another grow in Christ. If you are not currently in a small-group Bible study but would like to be, please visit the church office for a listing of available opportunities! Small-group leaders: Please remember to call the church office each week with the number of people who attended your Bible study ONLY if the numbers have changed. As an alternative, you may email the number of attendees to [email protected].

High School Hoops: Peace will host basketball nights

on Sundays and Mondays for any high school student

interested. Join in the fun from 7:15-9pm Sundays and

Benefit Dinner with guest speaker Stephanie Gray will take place on

Adult Bible Study - Opportunities to Gather, Grow, & Go

As disciples at Peace we all have an opportunity to join a small group to help one another grow In Christ. There is a

list of currently open small groups available in the Info Center in the lobby of the church, in the church office, or you may visit the website ”bit.ly/plc-smallgroups” to view the list of Bible studies/small groups available. All these

groups would welcome you to come and visit them!
