THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA
The Gospel this Sunday is the famous passage from the Gospel of John, “The Wedding Feast at Cana.” This beautiful and heart-warming story from the life of Jesus is familiar to all of us. As you begin a new week, allow me to offer a few reflections on this Gospel. First, the gospel in many ways confirms the humanity of our Lord. Like you and me, he had a family and went to family functions and parties, like this wedding in the town of Cana. It also seems like his family and friends liked to have a good time, as they ran out of wine at the wedding. Secondly, the gospel shows us how our Blessed Mother Mary is compassionate and caring and wants to help us in our daily lives. Mary felt sorry for the couple and their families as they were caught in an embarrassing situation, to run out of wine in the middle of a wedding reception. We have all hosted parties and can only imagine that feeling. Mary intervened, through the power of her Son, Jesus, to help. In the same way, bring your every day concerns and needs to our Blessed Mother. Like this couple, bring your family worries, health worries, relationship concerns, school and work problems to Mary. She is your compassionate mother, ready to help. Finally, listen to the words that Mary said to the waiters: “Do whatever he tells you.” Do you know that these are the last words recorded of Mary in the Gospels? Words not only for the waiters, but for you and me: to do whatever our Lord tells us. In the Gospels, Jesus and Mary do not meet up again until the cross, and there Jesus gives us his mother when he says to the beloved apostle, “Son, behold your mother.” On the cross, our Lord Jesus gives us the gift of his Mother Mary, to be our advocate during our journey of life. Take a moment today to reflect on this gospel. Picture yourself at the wedding and bring your worries and concerns to Mary. Listen to Mary telling you to
“do whatever her son Jesus tells you to do.” Follow the Lord’s way of love, mercy, service, and sacrifice.
This new year, make the Church an important part of you life.
God Bless you and your family,
Fr. Vince
Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia,
Padre Vicente
