selling to?• What are your demographics?• How can you meet the customers

needs on the website?• Are you going to ask for personal

information on the web page?• Where do you put contact

information on the site?• You need to think about the pages

and how easy it will be to view.• Do you want lots of pictures?• Do you want feedback from the

customer?• Do you want online ordering of

your goods or is it just an advertisement for your company?

EYE CATCHING SITE DESIGN IS VERY IMPORTANT !!!

• Your site should begin and end with the content and tie it together.

• It needs to be compelling and useful to the customer.

• You need to design a consistent website. The same color scheme thru out.

• Important elements need not be on every page but in the same spot on the pages.

• Some backgrounds can make you text hard to read and some colors clash together.

• You need to make things in your site easy to find.

• You have to make your customer feel comfortable on your site.

• Add several colorful pictures that relate to your business and the customer.

• Write in your own voice and if your not interested neither will your customer care.

• Think carefully about what you want to say.

More Advice on Web Design…..

• You do need to produce a uniform and unique color scheme.

• A great addition might be a mascot or logo of your company.

• Stamp a permanent impression on their brain.

• Photo: Google, Images

Page 13: The website business! agr 399

What you should include on each page….

• Always give each page a title.• Add a main heading on each

page.• Make your email and contact

phone numbers easy to find…top of the page works for me.

• No one wants to spend a day looking for the contact numbers.

• Always give your customers a feedback option…compliments are nice and problems need to be addressed soon!

• Keep it simple.

Time is valuable and your customer does not have all day looking for your content, your address and what products will make their lives comfortable and simple. There are many sources and competition is stealthy. Photo; Google, Images

Designing your Website

• One of the easiest ways to make your website easy to surf is to add a navigation bar on each page.

• Your navigation bar should be at the top of the page but there is nothing wrong with the bar down the center of your text.

• Using an image on your page to reference a link or homepage is a real great idea.

• The url is the address of the linked page, but filename is the name of the graphics you want to show for the customer to click.

Examples of setting up a Link…</head><body><a href=“books/index.html”><img src=“books.gif” border=“0” /></a>

You have to create <img> tags to set up these buttons as image links that shows the right pages.

This is probably confusing to most individuals and that is where a web designer would be very valuable. I will list those next.

Banners and Advertising

If you choose to have room for a banner on your website, it could add revenue for your company. A CPM is a safe bet because no one actually has to click on the banner. You make money for providing the space. CPM=cost per thousand.

A CPC or cost per click, is when someone clicks on a banner you are publishing and the value of amount of return is generally $0.15 per click.

If you make over $400.00 a year you will probably have to pay taxes on that.

Revenue!

Understanding Web Hosting Providers

There are several web hosting providers out there: Here are just a few.

Use your existing internet providerFind “Free Web Hosts”Sign up for the “Commercial Web Host”

Almost all free web hosts have ad requirements or require you to display some type of advertising on your pages. This could be a pop-up ad or a banner across you page or a “watermark” a semitransparent logo that hovers over your page….nothing is ever FREE!!

Most web hosts offer you an e-mail mailbox or a forwarding mailbox. • If the host offers a shared server, it

means that you will share with other websites.

• A dedicated server offers a lone server, but you have to manage the server.

• A operating system is the operating system on the web server. Usually Unix or Linus and Windows.

• In order to send your files over the network , unless you can use a company or school network, you need to use a FTP or File Transfer Protocol service.

• Windows has a FTP program called CuteFTP.

• American Online has an FTP program.

• Mac users get transferred thru www.tucows.com

What if you make a Mistake to your HTML file for your Website!!! NO PROBLEM….

To Update or change your site just make changes to your HTML files that reside in your computer and send the revised files to your web provider!
