to approach it)
SCSA Year 12 Information Handbook 2017http://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/publications/year-12-information - first port of call for any queries / concerns – extremely comprehensive (78 pages!) and helpful

Current position…
• Jody Clarke talking to Year 12 ATAR boys on Friday re TISC applications and General boys re TAFE
• ATAR boys will receive TISC booklet and information on Monday via Tutorial
• Year 12 boys have been given a Post School Transition form via tutorial to complete
• They can indicate on the form if they would like to meet with Jody Clarke to discuss their plans for next year.
Current position…• No more withdrawals from subjects with practical
component allowed• Friday 18 August: Last date for withdrawal from
ATAR courses without practical examination components; last date for withdrawal from General courses
• Boys completing Certificate III and IV Fitness must have completed all components by end of Term 3.
Term 3 – a demanding term for all boys • Weeks 3 – 8: assessments• Week 9 Mon – Wed: non-assessment days but boys
MUST attend lessons as usual (excellent revision program)
• Sport finishes soon – boys should make study timetable and really commit to academic program – can still make significant improvements
• Use events such as Aths Carnival, Teams Carnival to de-stress, enjoy time together
Concerns?
Concerns about how your son is coping? • Contact HoH/tutor (can refer to school
psychologists)• Monitor sleep, meals, use of technology, sensible
balance between study and leisure• Encourage perspective – we want boys to do the
best they can whilst maintaining healthy habits
ATAR pathway
How are we tracking?
• 2017 cohort – median ATAR is strong• A number of boys are still spending more time on
strategy than study• Some are sleeping in class!• Absences from Curtin excursion – concerning.
Term 3 - practical exams and portfolios
• Boys have been advised of deadlines for submission of portfolios for some subjects with practical component e.g. PES, Design, MDT - must be done through school
• Boys were informed in Term 2 and the rules made available on the parent portal
• SCSA is extremely stringent in applying the rules• Penalties applied (marks taken off) where rules are breached
– this is upsetting for all concerned.• Managing time and meeting deadlines is vital – last minute
all-nighters are not recommended
University open days
• Term 3 open days: – Curtin: Sunday 6 August– UWA + St George’s College: Sunday 13 August– ECU and WAAPA: Sunday 13 August– Notre Dame: Sunday 20 August
Week 9 – ATAR pathway• Week 9 Thurs-Fri: study days (at home)
• Week 9 Saturday: Trial exams start -continue throughout Week 10 (timetable very soon)
Term 3 holidays
• Boys should have some time off: +/- one week• They should also do some study! +/- one week• Good time to get organised, make study notes,
work in study groups, complete past papers, read Examiners’ reports – see Nexus and SCSA website.
ATAR Exam timetables
• Both Practical and Written exam timetables are now available from SCSA (also CCGS World)
• Non-negotiable – both practical (Sept/Oct) and written (November)
• Personalised version distributed shortly after 8 September – errors to be reported to MPB. Take careful note of SCSA student number!
ATAR Examination timetables
• From Sept 8, students can check their ATAR examination timetables and personal details online at https://www.wace.wa.edu.au.
• To log on, they will need their SCSA student number and other personal identification information.
Term 4
• Weeks 1 and 2: boys must attend all lessons – revision program
• Week 1: Trial examinations returned and front covers of actual ATAR examinations distributed
• Week 1/2: Boys given print-out of final marks and grades – need to check carefully and immediately and advise of any issues
• Week 3: Valedictory, study week (at home)• Teachers available to assist until end of ATAR exams.
ATAR examinations
• Arrive about 30 minutes prior to examination starting time – no entry if over 30 minutes late
• Must attend and make a genuine attempt in exams or will lose grade – subject will not count – can cost student his WACE (graduation)
• Some exams held at other schools – maps available from Studies Office
• Must take Personalised Timetable – entry ticket.
ATAR examinations contd.
• Strict rules - no food, clear water bottles - see SCSA Handbook for full list of rules (CCGS has trained boys accordingly)
• Take care with choice of pen – erasable pen cannot be read by machines that mark multiple choice answers or papers that are scanned for marking online (this now happens in many subjects)
• Spare batteries for calculators, spare pens!• Security and fairness paramount.
Marking of the ATAR exams
• All examinations are double-marked• All candidates are anonymous – identified only by
their numbers• Thorough, meticulous process: candidates’ efforts
are honoured.
Sickness or Misadventure claims
• For candidates who suffer from a temporary sickness or accident close to or during ATAR exams (see p42 of SCSA Handbook)
• Form available from Margaret Brophy or SCSA website• Documentation must be provided as evidence• Form must be submitted by 4pm Wed Nov 23 at the
latest.
TISC - Results• See http://www.tisc.edu.au/static/guide/tisc-calendar-
current.tisc for calendar• Available Tuesday December 19 (early) via TISC online• MUST have student number to access• Students have two weeks to make changes to TISC
preferences – this is reassuring to know! Due by 11pm on 4 January
• Results check available until 11 January – only to check addition and that response is fully marked – no re-marking of actual answers is done.
Uni offers
• Wed 17 January 2018 – offers process begins• Some unis will negotiate – may be worth a try• Final scaled score of 50 or over required in an
English subject – but there are safety nets.
