• Authentication based on username/password pair provided by an Identity Provider, hiding digital certificates.
• An Identity Federation is currently existing in 4 countries involved in GISELA (see https://refeds.org/resources_list.html):

We will promote and encourage the creation of Identity Federations in other Latin American countries, in collaboration with ELCIRA, CLARA and NRENS, and their eventual participation in eduGAIN.

eduGAIN(www.edugain.org)
All the Science Gateways developed at Catania are
Service Providers of the eduGAIN inter-federation!

The VRC-driven GISELA Science Gateway:The Grid Engine based on SAGA
• SAGA (Simple API for Grid Applications) is an API that provides the basic functionality required to build distributed applications, tools and frameworks
• SAGA is an Open Grid Forum standard
http://www.gridforum.org/documents/GFD.90.pdf
• The purpose of the SAGA standard is two-fold:– Provide a standardized, common interface across various grid
middleware (independent of the underlying infrastructure)– Provide a simple API that can be used with much less effort compared to
the interfaces of existing grid middlewares
• Several implementations are available: – We adopted JSAGA the Java implementation developed at CCIN2P3
(http://grid.in2p3.fr/jsaga/)

• We are working to create a Latin-American Task Force able to integrate new applications on the GISELA SG in a short time;
• CLARA and NRENs identified a group of Java developers to compose this Task Force;
• We organized a series of virtual meetings to teach how to integrate scientific applications on the GISELA SG;
• We are invited guys of the Latin-American Task Force to come in Europe to learn more about the Science Gateway Model (in collaboration with the EPIKH project).

The VRC-driven GISELA SG:Conclusions
EGI Community Forum - Munich – 29/03/2012
• 98 users registered (in less than 4 months)
• Users can submit jobs through a normal web browser
• Authentication based on Identity Federations: CAFe (Brazil), IDEM (Italy), RCTSaai (Portugal), SIR (Spain), and eduGAIN (international) currently integrated
• The SG is independent of the underlying middleware (SAGA OGF Standard adopted)
• 4 VRC-specific SGs currently available: Cultural Heritage, Industry, Life Sciences, and Mathematics
• 7 Applications currently integrated
• About a dozen applications going to be integrated soon
