The Volkswagen Beetle, known as Kfer in Germany, was designed by Ferdinand Porsch

ninteen thirtyeight. The Beetle was originally designed for high speeds on the Autobah

well as a small economy car. It is a very unique and quirky design. The Beetle comfortably

five people and their luggage in the bonnet compartment and behind the rear seat. The V

swagen Beetle also got great miles per gallon with a drag coefficentcy of zero point four on

The Volkswagen Beetle was a very hipster car when it was first designed. Within the e

years very few productions were made but in the late sixties and seventies they became

popular for the average family. The Volkswagen Beetle is actually my classic dream car and

been since I found a Super Beetle in my hometown when I was fifteen years old. That is w

chose the Volkswagen Beetle as my pop icon.

    The Peoples Car

In 1933, Adolf Hitler gave the order to Ferdinand Porsche

to develop a Volkswagen (literally, "people's car" in

German, pronounced. The epithet Volks- literally, "peo-

ple's-" had been previously applied to other Nazi sponsored

consumer goods such as the Volksempfnger ("people's

radio"). Hitler required a basic vehicle capable of transport-

ing two adults and three children at 100 km/h (62 mph). The "People's Car" would be available to citizens of the

Third Reich through a savings scheme, or Sparkarte at 990

Reichsmark, about the price of a small motorcycle.
