Air, Water and Earth (AWE) is the theme of Save Our Planet5 conference. Three ‘AWEsome’ elements that sustain life on our planet. Our ‘Awful’ actions in the name of progress has poisoned these awesome elements

to levels that now threatens the very survival of the human race.

Roy ([email protected] , [email protected])Founder & ChairmanAseAnAFFAiRs –the Voice of southeast Asiase Asia’s global publication: in 35 Countries * Asia * europe * Americas, (www.aseanaffairs.com)AseAnAFFAiRs published by TIME ( www.timecoltd.com – complete Media & IT Solutions).inteRnAtionAl HQ: 7th Fl., V. AirWe will all die in a few minutes if we stop breathing or there was no air on the planet. That is how important air is to our survival. Without air, the planet will survive, we will not. So why are we contaminating the very element that makes planet Earth our only home and human life possible? Are we creating a ‘NEW’ (Poisonous) air for an alien species?

WaterWater is the elixir of life! Water gives life and it can also take life. Tsunamis can wipe out populations in the blink of an eye. We are made up of water and water covers 71 percent of the earth’s surface. Without fresh water we will die surely as we die without air. So why have we been systematically poisoning the very elixir of human life? By 2025 it is expected that half of the world’s population may have difficulty getting water. Is water becoming the “new oil?”

EarthFrom the earliest known humans, earth has always been referred to as ‘MOTHER EARTH’. She is the mother who has always cared for her children, the human race. So what have we done? We have pillaged, looted, scarred, poisoned, wounded, and done everything to contaminate the third element, ‘Earth’ with all our technological might. The food that mother earth helps us to produce is under a great threat today. Billions are in danger of starving to death.

What should we do Now?

Warm greetings from AseanAffairs, an indepen-dent media with a dedicated focus on Southeast

Asia (Asean), connecting the region with the world and vice versa.

The Save Our Planet conference series was launched in 2010 by Asean Affairs - the Global

Publication of Southeast Asia. The series began in March 2010 in Bangkok (12 March and 25

March) and continued in Malaysia (3 Aug 2010 in Kuala Lumpur). It continues in 2011 in Thailand. Plans to organize the series in India, Vietnam, Indonesia and China are on the draw-ing board, culminating in a mega-conference at

the end of the series.

More than 1000 participants and 80 speakers have attended the Save Our Planet series from a dozen countries. “Save Our Planet has be-

come a prestigious and internationally recog-nized event in a very short time”, remarked Mr. Peter Chin, Malaysia’s Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water in his keynote speech at

SOP Malaysia on 3 August 2010.We have poisoned all 3 elements that make us.

I welcome you to join the movement.

AseAn AFFAiRs-sAVe ouR PlAnet enDoWMent CHAiR to meet CliMAte CHAnge CHAllenges There are solutions and technologies for a cleaner and greener world available in some of the countries of the world today. However to actualize them in the countries in Asean/Asia will take more than just technology transfer. It will require delving into the challenges faced by these countries at a local level and finding and applying the appropriate solutions. In order to do that we propose the creation of an endowment chair funded by supporters/sponsors of Save Our Planet Conferences at our Knowledge Partner Universities to fund research and create clean and green energy solutions for specific Asean countries to address specific climate change challenges.

sAVe ouR PlAnet CARBon sCoRe CARD (soP CsC) save our Planet Carbon score Card (soP CsC): is an appealing way to involve all those involved in the Save Our Planet conferences to grade their carbon footprint in preparing for and participating in the event. Participants would be required to fill out the SOP CSC, preferably prior to the conference. The objectives are: - Help participants to realize the size of the carbon footprints their businesses create. A number is more telling and impactful, a starting point and a benchmark against which a goal for carbon reduction can be set. - Once the score cards are filled out by participants, the number for all the participants can be totaled for a carbon output of the businesses taking part in the event. - Next, a mutually accepted goal of reduction can be set. e.g. 10% between now and next year by SOP 2012. - A tracking mechanism can be set up online whereby participants can post the results of reduction every quarter.

the final goal: to help companies arrive at their Carbon footprint number, learn the steps to reduce that footprint fromthe conference and set a time bound goal of reduction. - Awards and recognitions to the participants who achieve the CSC goals will follow in the SOP conferences in 2012.
