As the sorority year is coming to a close, I

wanted to take this time to say thank you for

allowing me to serve as your chapter

president for the past two years. It has

been a wonderful journey! With any good

thing in life there come challenges as wells as successes. I can

truly say as your chapter president I have experienced them all.

But the true test of a person is not about how many challenges you

go through, but how you handle them and what you gain from the

outcome.

Today, almost 24 months later, I can say that I am a more complete

leader because of what I’ve experience. I have grown in the areas

of listening, patience, and understanding (thanks to the True Colors

lesson), and I can discern what is considered important and what is

not.

Being a chapter president is not an easy task. There is a lot that

goes on behind the scene that sometimes no one ever knows.

What have gotten me through many nights is knowing that God is

by my side and has my back!

I want to thank the Executive Board and the Committee Chairs for stepping up and working diligently

these past two years. I could not have done all this work alone. I want to thank the sorors of the

chapter for allowing me to share the vision (commitment to serve) and you catching on to the vision

and being a part of the vision. We have made some great community contacts and worked with

some wonderful community organization these past years to put on some awesome programs. My

prayer is that we continue to foster these relationships and put on even more awesome community

service programs. Because Long Beach Alumnae is a “chapter on a movement and not a

monument” as Soror McIntyre said in her 2010 National Address.

In closing I leave you with this poem:

The Delta Girl... The Delta girl is one who has been given the opportunity of education and broad development: she is one who has enjoyed the privileges of culture and selected environment...It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self-centered, not desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory- but with a purpose which directs her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else. By: Soror Mary McCleod-Bethune Toodles! Gotta Go! As I transition from the position of Chapter President, I will still be an active part

of the chapter. I have been called to chair the 2014 Farwest Regional Conference here in the

beautiful city of Long Beach!

With Delta Love,

Adriene L. Gray President – 2010-2012 “I am here to Serve”

Have a fabulous summer!!!!!!!

What a wonderful sorority year it has been. LBAC has so

much to be proud of, from bringing in new members to

successful fundraisers to our first mission trip. With that

said, I know we are tired. Make sure you rest this summer

and have some “me time”. I know this can be hard

because we have our personal lives to tend to outside of

Delta. However, if we take some time out we can go back

refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to tackle life some more.

If you still find this hard to do, you can always turn our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The

beginning of the bible sets an example for us when God created the world; he worked for 6

days and rested on the 7th (Genesis 2:2-3). We have to trust that God will not let things

fall apart if we take a day for ourselves. Matthew 11:28 says “Come to me, all who labor

and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. Have a girlfriend’s spa day or one alone,

take a vacation, go to the beach or the mountains. What ever you do, I pray you have a

fantastic summer.

The countdown has officially begun. We are only 7 (short) months away from celebrating our 100 years as an organization. Are you ready for all of the fun activities that are in store for us? I sure hope so, because there will be a lot going on starting January 1, 2013. Here’s a highlight of what to expect:

∆ Sorors will need a picture of themselves to submit for badges used on all the Centennial events. More information will be provided.

∆ On January 1, 2013, DST will participate in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Sorors can

make a $1,000 donation to participate by walking alongside the float. The donation includes the opportunity to be on television, receive a limited edition Delta Centennial Blazer (red) as well as other special amenities. You can also donate $500 to sit in the stands and get a white blazer.

∆ Later that same evening DST will host a star-studded gala in Hollywood.

∆ Los Angeles will be the start of a 22 city torch run. The lighting of the Delta Centennial TORCH will make its way through 21 other cities around the world.

∆ Centennial Founders Day Weekend (January 10 – 13, 2013) in Washington, DC:

o Morning show appearances in NYC (TODAY, CBS Early Show, Good Morning AMERICA); caravan by bus to DC

o Homecoming at Howard and IMPACT DAY o Rededication Ceremony o Delta Centennial Honors o Centennial Ecumenical Workshop Service o 100th Founders Day Dinner (black tie)

∆ If you have special vintage pictures that you would like us to share on the website, please scan and send them to [email protected].

Visit http://deltasigmatheta.org/centennial/index.htm often for updates and important information. It’s important to remember that you must be financial in the current fiscal year in order to register for Centennial events; and you must be financial in the following year to attend the events.

Long Beach Alumnae Chapter decided to do

something nice during prom season. We wanted to

find a student in need of some financial assistance in

order to attend their senior prom. We contacted a

teacher at Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, CA

and he and the counselors selected 17 year old senior

Alexus McIntosh. Alexus is an honors student at

Cabrillo with a 3.0 GPA and is in a rigorous program of

college preparatory, honors and advance placement

classes. She is also an excellent track and cross

country runner. She will be attending California State

University Dominguez Hills in the fall. Congratulations

to Alexus and enjoy the Prom!

PROTOCOL MOMENT ∆ΣΘ

LBAC Policies & Procedures Did you know? The Second Vice President, with the Membership Services Committee will make an assessment to determine if membership intake should take place each year. The assessment will determine what reclamation efforts have occurred and been exhausted for the year. A recommendation for membership intake will be voted on by the October chapter meeting.

LBAC P/P 2010 Article XIV Section 11

The proper pronunciation of the

word “alumnae” is (uh-lum-knee). Just remembers that it rhymes with “gum tree”.

The official stationery of a Chapter is for the official business of the Chapter. Sorors are not authorized to duplicate official letterhead.

Please adhere to these guidelines set by our Grand Chapter.

June 2012 - 9-
