A NOTE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Dear Ladies,

What an exciting month we have had! At our April meeting Karen and B.J. helped us focus on the many details of the Gala. We learned what to expect and what would be expected of us. What we didn’t realize at the time was the SPECTACULAR event our Gala would be this year. Even Karen, B. J., and the wonderful Gala Committee were thrilled at what a fabulously successful and fun filled day all of that hard work produced. They will be the first to credit each one of you for your hard work and commitment. Without your skills and dedication and without your generous donations of time and energy,

countless hours driving and transporting, sacrifices of space in your homes for storage, not to mention precious hours of sleep, the Gala would not have been the great success it was. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Let me add my sincerest thanks and congratulations to Karen and B.J. for your leadership and to you all for all you do for our Club and our community. Awesome!

This year we were honored to include among our guests several members of the GFWC-NC Executive Board: President Gay Warren, First Vice President Ann Landis, Second Vice President Julie Rigsbee, and Third Vice President and Director of Juniors Jennifer Jobe. Also with us was Wendy Carriker, GFWC-NC Immediate Past president. What an honor that so many State officers from all over North Carolina traveled so far to share this special day with us. And, what wonderful complements we have received from them about their experience. A proud day for GFWC of Holden Beach!

Congratulations to Peg Storella and Renee Edwards on a very successful Days at the Docks Bake Sale. A grateful “Thank you!” to both of you for stepping up to plan, organize, staff and manage the Sale. You did a great job! Thanks, also, to each Club member who helped. Without your baking and delivering all those delicious treats, and manning the booth this could not have happened. What a wonderful team of Ladies we have!

The program for this month’s meeting is presented by the Education CSP and will be a “Going to College Shower” for our Carey Page Truesdell Scholarship winner, Peyton Hartis. We are so happy for Peyton and want to send her off in style! If you need ideas, take a look at the Education CSP report that follows or contact Judy Brock. Out of time to shop? Gift cards and cash work just fine! Remember, whatever you can do will be deeply appreciated by our college bound star student. It promises to be a great party!

Many of our members were able to attend the GFWC-NC Convention in Concord. Our club was recognized several times for its achievements, receiving first place awards for the GFWC Signature Project, Domestic Violence Prevention and Awareness, and also for our Yearbook. We garnered first runner up recognition for Newsletter, Membership Brochure, Membership Matters and Leadership. Two of our members received individual honors. Ann Landis was installed as First

Vice President in a beautiful and memorable ceremony. Karen Throckmorton was selected as the North Caroline LEADS Candidate. She will represent our state at the GFWC International Convention in Arizona next month. Congratulations, Ladies! So many wonderful reasons to celebrate!

As we prepare for our summer break, you should know that plans for our summer social are already underway. We will let you know the details as soon as they are available.

Finally, if you are interested in attending the GFWC Convention next month, please contact me. Seven members have already registered and you may want to coordinate transportation and other plans.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 20th, Julie

6 TH ANNUAL CHARITY GALA Karen Throckmorton, ChairmanB.J. Stephens, Co Chairman

Another Year, Another Fabulous Gala! Each year we build on the foundation that began in 2009. Incorporating new ideas while keeping those that work so well. Attendance grew. Lunch and fashions were enjoyable. The silent auction was top of the line. The raffle was, too. And there was not a finer looking venue or crowd in Carolina! It is truly a labor of love for the causes we believe in, especially at a time when grant money and support is low. We are still counting and working on the numbers but all indications are that we will be able to increase our donations to Hope Harbor Home and Providence Home this year. Of course I have to say, don’t forget to send me your gala hours!!  I know that is everyone’s favorite thing to do but please work on them while they are fresh on your minds.  And, let me know your thoughts on what you would like to do for next year’s gala. I would like to get everyone’s preferences. Your contributions and many, many talents are greatly appreciated. Congratulations on a job very well done.

We had a small part in these numbers from our club with a BIG heart. This is why it is so important to keep good numbers to report.

And the grand total for our state’s Signature Project “Feed the Future”:

Why Volunteer? -- Volunteering is the perfect way to feel connected to your community. The simple act of offering your skills and enthusiasm will positively impact the lives of others, as well as your own.

Volunteering Promotes Social Change -- Several factors drive people into community service, but the powerful force behind volunteering is the social change that is made through the inspiration of people to make a difference to help those in need. Organizations like ours cannot function without the energy and input of ladies like you.

If you know of someone that wants to be a part of our great Women’s Club, let me know and I will email them information.
