Looking to learn
more from a nation-
ally-known gunsmith,
students in the WVC
Gunsmithing Pro-
gram invited Marc
Krebs from Krebs
Custom of Waucon-
da, IL to campus to
teach a two-day
comprehensive class
on AK rifles – how
they work and how
to upgrade from
standard features.
Krebs, along with
Steven Alessi, pro-
vided instruction to
the students.
Alessi, a 2015 grad-
uate of the WVC
Gunsmithing Pro-
gram, is the current
Production Floor
Manager at Krebs Cus-
tom. WVC Gunsmith-
ing Lead Instructor
Brian Wick stated that
Alessi had a very good
experience during his
time in the Gunsmithing
Program and talked
with the current stu-
dents in the Program
about opportunities
within the field of gun-
smithing.
Following the visit from
Krebs and Alessi, Mr.
Wick stated, “I have
heard nothing but posi-
tive remarks from our
students. Our goal is
to have Krebs come in
and teach a week-long
class next year on how
to build AK-47’s up to
his standard.”
Students were able to shoot an AK-47 gun full auto while at the Mt. Carmel Shooting Range,
under the direction of the instructor and with appropriate licensure and approval from local au-
thorities.
Marc Krebs of Krebs Custom (left) is pictured
with Lead Instructor Brian Wick. Krebs and
Krebs Custom have maintained a reputation
for producing various custom models of top-
quality AK-pattern rifles, as well as innovative
accessories and parts that bring the Kalashni-
kov rifle into the 21st century, and that en-
hance the usefulness of AK to both US military
and law-enforcement personnel, and civilian
owners.
WVC Food Drive Benefits the WADI Food Pantry
Through the generosity of students, faculty, staff and the communi-
ty, the Wabash Valley College Student Senate was able to collect
over 2,000 non-perishable food items to donate to the Wabash
Area Development Incorporated (WADI) Food Pantry to help those
less fortunate in Wabash County during the holiday season.
The 2,061 items donated to the WVC Student Senate’s food drive
were the most donated on any IECC campus, and, as a result, a
travelling trophy for the campus that collects the most items will
reside on the WVC campus for the next year.
In addition to the WVC Student Senate, several WVC clubs partici-
pated in the food drive including the Teaching Our Youth Club,
Science Club, Health Professionals Club, and the Ag Club/
Collegiate Farm Bureau.
On November 30, WVC Retention Coordinator Jennifer Stroughmatt
received notice the Tribe Community Garden Project has been select-
ed to receive a $2,500 Walmart Community Grant Award.
WVC began its Community Garden Project in the fall of 2015 under
the direction of Jennifer Stroughmatt. Stroughmatt, the Tribe Activity
Scholarship students and Pathways to Success Garden students
have been hard at work growing food to provide the community food
pantry with fresh fruits and vegetables. Having expanded from toma-
toes, beans and cucumbers in the first year, the Community Garden
has been working on a large bed of strawberries, watermelons, an
asparagus bed, and growing potatoes in tire towers.
The Community Garden project offers students the opportunity to de-
velop a love for service, learn leadership and interpersonal communi-
cation skills, and make a connection with the bigger picture of what it
means to serve and support a community.
“The Community Garden will benefit from the Walmart Grant greatly,”
stated Stroughmatt. “The Grant means everything to the growth of
the Garden. Without it, the students would be limited in how they can
expand and grow the good works they are doing for their community.”
