    From our PresidentGreetings from Townsville,

Deb and I decided to have a week away in Far NorthQueensland, the plan was to do a bit of work, catchup with some friends who are travelling aroundAustralia with a caravan and do some sightseeing.Unfortunately we got a phone call on the second daytelling us that Justin had broken his leg and was inhospital. We both felt pretty helpless so plans havechanged and we are coming home a few days earlyso that we can be around when he gets out ofhospital. Justin likes to keep himself very busy so I'mtipping that he will be like a dog on a chain for thenext month or so!

Huge thanks to the Blundens and Russells for a

fabulous Christmas in June, the weather was perfectand everybody had a great day of driving and a funnight.

I received an email this morning from a retiredphotographer who spotted a number of our Morgansat Kyneton on the monthly RDO lunch run last Friday` I will forward the photos to Brian for circulation.

( Unfortunately with our special CIJ coverage, thismonth's issue is already oversize so we will have tohold them over for the August Edition > ED)

There was some good news for me today ` the Aero8is finally repaired, the problem related to thevariable valve timing in the end, which is a bitdisappointing considering that the car has only done25,000kms, maybe it's not been driven enough.

Don't forget the meeting at our place on Friday 10thstarting at 7.30pm, there will be parking available tothose who are keen enough to bring their Morgan. Please RSVP to [email protected] so that Debcan make sure we have enough tucker.

    Cheers

    C.I.J. HOLLYWOOD

    WEEKEND

Saturday 13 June dawned clear with a beautiful bluesky, perfect for our Morgan tour.

Eight Morgans met at the Brighton Beach Railway

Station at 8.30am and by 9am were driving alongBeach Road. The traffic was good so long as thehundreds of cyclists kept to the inside lane. Theengine in the ffrenchs' Morgan kept cutting out andthey decided to drop off at home in Black Rock andget the "other" pop top.

Morning coffee was at "The Rocks" down by the

water at Mornington. Good choice, great coffee, yummy cakes and parking spaces for the Morgans.Phil and Lyndy Blunden, our hosts for the weekend, met us here. Also time to welcome the fourTasmanians, with Morgans, who had joined us for theget together.

Leaving the cafe and heading for our lunchdestination at Flinders, we partook in an ObservationTrial. So now the navigator has eyes in all directions,as well as trying to get the driver to stop occasionallyso they can actually read some of the informationrequired. Counting the number of curves and as wellas the suggested speed signs whilst charging upArthur's Seat was a challenge.

Lunch was scheduled around12.30 in the PeninsulaRoom at the Flinders Hotel. Standing on the corneroutside the pub around this time it was amazing tosee Morgans arriving from all points of the compassthen throwing a quick right or left turn and

  • The VICMOG Gazette JULY 2015

vanishing again as they hunted for the last elusiveclues. However, for most it was all in vain as, withoutstanding coordination, team work and an eye fordetail that would put Sherlock Holmes to shame, theteam of Kevin and Helen Davis swept all aside andwon this event.

At Flinders the Hardys, having done their duty at agrandchild's second birthday party, joined the groupso there were now 12 Morgans and several othercars in the group. We had a lovely venue toourselves. Lunch was a la carte and very pleasant andas always it is great to catch up with our Morganfriends.

After lunch, Lyndy and Phil had organized a Regularitytrial so, provided with a totally baffling sheet offigures, we dutifully headed off to the designatedstart point where Mac Russell flagged us off at 2

minute intervals. The idea was to get to an unknownfinish point averaging 63KPH.

We duly set off down a beautiful windy road out ofFlinders bound in the direction of the Cape SchankLighthouse and were really enjoying the run till werounded one particular corner and saw Phil so westopped. It was clear some of us did actually have anidea of what they were doing and Mike and DotDevine won this event by a small margin from theMacwirthers and the Davis's.

Our next point of call was the Cape SchanckLighthouse and it became apparent that the TouristBoard did not really expect people to come fromFlinders looking for the Lighthouse as the sign hadbeen overgrown and as a result most of us overshotthe turn. Fortunately coming back in the otherdirection the signage is very clear and we gathered inthe car park at the lighthouse and thanks to Lyndy'sbrillant organization were allowed to drive ourMorgans up to the base of the Lighthouse.

We had intially parked facing the Lighthouse but Philtalked us all into turning around and after this wasaccomplished and we had taken a few photos, weclimbed the lighthouse and gazed back on themagnificent sight of our Morgans below. The veiwout to sea wasn't bad either.

Then back into our Morgans and a short run to ourovernight accommodation at Peppers, Moonah Links. The accommodation here is in seperate lodges andwe filled the Boobialla Lodge and overflowed into theneighbouring Lomandra Lodge. The rooms were large

  • The VICMOG Gazette JULY 2015

modern and spacious and the best feature was thatour function was held on the ground floor ofBoobialla.

Around 6:30 pm we appeared in our Hollywoodfinery posing for the photographer on the red carpetthen enjpoying a few drinks and conversation beforeour beautiful meal was served. Lyndy and Phil'smovie triva quiz demonstarted to most how little weactually all knew about movies but we got some veryfunny guesses.

The aptly named "Mac Anthony" had to be the moststunning male costume present and "Marilyn" Hardywas judged the best female costume. Kevin and

Helen Davis' chillingly realistic (and I suspect mostuncomfortable) Clockwork Orange outfits won thebest couples costumes. However, all had madefantastic efforts in the costume department andcombined with Lyndy and Phil's fantastic moviethemed room decorations the atmosphere wasperfect and the night really buzzed.

We gathered for breakfast next morning then headedout onto the Golf course's Helipad for some calendarshots before dispersiing. Lyndy and Phil kindly put ona light Sunday lunch at their Shoreham home forthose who were still around.

Santa Lyndy ably assited by Phil and Mac and MarjRussell put on a truly fabulous weekend. Their themeand concept for the weekend was brillant, theirattention to detail was outstanding and everythingwent like clockwork. The fact that the weather wasabsolutely perfect for Morganing was a big plus aswell. All I spoke to raved about how good it was. Welldone Guys and thanks so much Lyndy. You havereally set an incredibly high standard for future C.I.J.events.

Just when you think you have heard it all, something comes up and just makes you stop and wonder why.

Following on their total lack of success with Plus E, a classic Morgan with an electric engine, Morgan has nowcome up with the EV3 based on the standard Morgan 3 Wheeler. The EV3 is claimed to look at the world ofzero emissions motoring with an entirely new approach. Morgan advise that this prototype version iscurrently undertaking a full testing and development programme and is expected to go into productiontowards the end of 2016. A single rear electric motor provides 45kw of power and the overall weight is lessthan its combustion based counterpart at 450kg. Range is expected to be approximately 150 miles.

Looking at the pictures, something struck me as odd but it did not dawn on me for a moment. Then it came. Why would an electric car need a fuel cap? I am guessing it is where you stick the plug in.

Now I am no expert but I sort of thought the main market for the M3W was for cashed up old guys who weresmart enough to figure that their reaction timings precluded them from safely riding big motor bikes. Withthe M3W they could still get the thump and roar of a big bike engine and the bugs in their teeth but stayupright with minimal effort. I just wonder if the "bugs in the teeth in total silence" experience will appeal toanybody.

    REPORTS FROM ABROAD

As the Melbourne winter bites, a number of ourmembers tend to flee the country to warmer climes.Lyle Honess sent in this picture of his Plus 8 Jockproudly sporting our VICMOG badge in Scotlandwhere he informs me that the petrol is moreexpensive than the whisky but the weather is fineand there are some great Morgan roads .

As a good Morgan owner does when travelling in theUK, Lyle dropped in on the factory and sent me acouple of pictures of a new Aero with the most awfullooking plastic seats. Just goes to show money andtaste do not necessarily always go hand in hand

Our worthy Social Secretary Bill and his better halfKate also in the UK dropped into the factory and sentus some great shots (see next page)

Bill was told they currently have 25,000 visitors ayear going through the factory and that they hadonly produced 3 new Aeros so far. His guide wasunable to tell him where the spare wheel if any islocated on the new Aero.

  • The VICMOG Gazette JULY 2015

    Reporter: Ted Houston

The weather forecast was for a bright sunny winterday with light winds. Perfect for Morganeering.

A small group of five Mogs met at Todd Road for aprompt departure at 10:30. Brian would have beenpleased. Colin led the troops in his shiny blackmachine, and David and Carol took up the rear.

We had an uneventful drive up to Frank and Sarah'swhere we rested the horses, drank Frank's coffeewith liquer, and ate the chocky biscuits. Saying that,I’m still having nightmares that include M&M’s.

Geoff F met us at Frank's which brought the numbers

up to seven, plus Peter and Heather's tintop.

The drive from Frank's over to Kyneton was superb. The roads were windy, the scenery was spectacular, and the Mogs were very pretty (Bev said that!)

I would love to have a look through some of thosebeautiful old homes and mansions that graceMacedon

A great day to be alive. Frank's cream Roadster was in

front of me burbling away with a very distinctivetone… ummmmaybe I need to upgrade.

We arrived at Source dining to a very welcomingstaff, whilst decorating the streets of Kyneton with adazzling automotive display . Small children screamedwith delight and young ladies were swooning andfainting. Ron Bayley joined us here with hismagnificent Plus 8

We even had a professional photographer (a Moglover) take many pictures pro bono, hopefully we candisplay some in the next newsletter.

The lunch was very tasty and ideal for the hipsterclientele such as us. Roast duck, slow cooked lambshoulder, home made pies, pork belly…though I can’t

    remember what anyone else ordered.

A fast 110km drive home down the freeway, finishedoff the day just in time for an early sunset and a liedown with a Bex.

HOWMANY MILES CAN A MORGAN DO?

By normal standards, our Morgans tend to be relatively lightly used so perhaps the question "How many milescan I get out of this car?" is not one that crosses your mind often if ever but just to give you some idea, here isa one owner, original bodied, original engined Morgan that Lyle came across this month at Ben and Mike'sHartelbury Garage.

If you look closely at the speedo you can see it has travelled an amazing 229,057 Miles (or 368,631 Kilometers
