What the heck is What the heck is Chiaroscuro?Chiaroscuro?

In art is characterized by strong contrasts between light and dark that affects the whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for using contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects such as the human body or on a still-life

A still life is a work of art depicting mostly of commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on)

A still life painting gives the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than landscape or portraits.

Origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greek/Roman art.
