Social networking service(SNS)

A social networking service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, who, for example, share interests and/or activities. 

Social networking service and media have changed the world, let along the ways we learn something in the classroom.

If I am a professor, the ways in which I would use the media in the classroom are as follows.

The use of media

∙ I will establishing a Facebook page for the class, just like Michael Prieler. Posting the course syllabus and assignments, sharing the teaching materials. In addition, I can give a notice in advance about the quizzes and homework. Students also can post, share and critique each other’s ideas. It will be a channel for communication between professors and students.

∙ Telling the e-mail address. Answer any question about the class that students put up through e-mail.

Beyond the text

• I will take advantage of the power of the media to make the class more lively and interesting. For an example, showing a video through the internet could impress the students and arouse the their special interests, better than the use of only written and spoken text.

• The use of the internet. The internet provides opportunities to access to other learners, experts, and real-world experiences that an individual teacher cannot match. Taking a real example and connecting the knowledge we learned in the text to the daily life, telling students that how to take actions based on the knowledge in the daily life.

My opinion

Many universities get started to use media in the classroom and the social media is having a significant impact on the education. In my opinion, it is necessary to use media in the classroom, especially in the information age. It is getting more important to know how to use media. If we use new media in the classroom, it may be a way to practice using media. It also can save us much time.

It is more beneficial for students. The media helps struggling students better understand course material.
