Program StructureDiploma Candidacy: Complete 3 Higher Level (HL) courses, 3 Standard Level (SL) courses, Theory of Knowledge course, 150 hours of CAS, and an Extended Essay!Diploma Candidacy Alternative: Complete 4 HL courses instead of 3 HL courses along with all other diploma requirements listed above.

Candidates must also meet the following criteria: Complete 150 hours of CAS.
Earn a passing grade in TOK and EE.Earn at least 12 total points from the HL courses.

What To Expect…Internal Assessments (IA’s) occur in every course spread out over the
two years. All students are expected to complete all IA’s for all courses. The IA in each course carries a different weight towards the
course grade.!
External Assessments (EA’s) occur in the first three weeks of May in the senior year. The only classes that do not have EA’s in May are
Visual Arts and TOK. All students are expected to complete all EA’s for all courses. The IA in each course carries a different weight
towards the course grade.!
Required Group 4 Project in Fall/Winter of junior year.!
Scheduled CAS meetings every cycle.!
Extended Essay process starts 2nd semester of junior year and finishes end of 1st semester senior year.

Choosing between HL & SL Courses
GRADUATION CREDITS
Students will take close to or earn more than 7.0 credits during their junior and senior years.
!Students will earn a minimum of 25.98 credits by graduation, exceeding the district’s 24 credits required for graduation.!Students can earn a Downingtown diploma AND an IB Diploma. If the IB Diploma requirements are not met, students can earn an IB certificate that lists the content areas along with their Downingtown diploma.
