Build a Trailer

AGM Saturday January 17, 2015

TCCA finally was able to find a trailer that would

hold all the equipment needed to put on our various

competitions. Thanks to the efforts of Jackie Shute

we were able to get this trailer at a very good price

and the equipment is now being stored in it. This

trailer does not leak when it rains and therefore does

not have to be stored inside, plus it is much safer

than the trailer we had.

The ‘new to us’ trailer has been paid for so now we

are trying to build up our bank account to replace

the money spent on the trailer.

The BUILD A TRAILER campaign at the AGM

will consist of a picture of a trailer with cards for all

the various parts that need to come together to

construct this trailer. We are asking our members to

buy a card representing a part of the trailer in an

attempt to recoup some of the money spent buying

the ‘new to us’ trailer.

There will be pieces of the trailer (labelled cards)

ranging from $5.00 to $200.00.

Please help us with this badly needed new trailer!

TCCA Fall Show Sept 14

What a show! Thank you to the Inch family, for

allowing us the use of their facility, for the food, to

the volunteers and to the Tri-County Carriage

Driving Association. It takes a lot to bring this all

together.

The events of the show did not all sink in until I got

home, after all the chatter about the day, and then I

did my Happy Dance!

Georgina and Glory, with Groom Alea Woods

in the Cross Country event

Reading the dressage test result is such a great tool

as in the moment what was foremost in my mind

was remembering what comes next. Then the cones:

coming from the hunter/jumper world the cones

seem like a jumper course only keeping all four feet

on the ground, with those tennis ball like a rail

down. It was a real challenge to figure it all out and

it was such good fun. The cross country course was

huge for me but I absolutely loved it. I could not be

happier with Glory (Alderdale Morning Glory) who

I purchased August 26, 2013. She came from a 6-

pony hitch directly from her breeder at age 17 and

has had a very steep learning curve. We look

forward to the new adventures that await us as we

move forward with our driving shows.

Holding these shows also requires competitors to

attend, support staff, coaches and handlers, so

thanks to all, and a special thanks to Vicki Cork for

getting me there.

All the best to everyone who attended the show and

Happy Driving in 2015.

Georgina Rattray

(Georgina was Grand Champion of the show)

Showing the Banner!

Judi Morris and her pony Tickle, costumed as a reindeer,

participated in the Puslinch Christmas Parade with the

TCCA banner highly visible!

Marcelle Grimes and Debbie Hewson carried the banner,

while elf Briar Shephard threw candies to the crowd.

Kudos to them for highlighting TCCA!

Education: An Ongoing Process

New to carriage driving, I wondered if I would ever

learn the things I needed to become proficient in the

sport and talk intelligently to others. Tack shops had

few books on the subject and I found the internet

confusing. At one of my early lessons, Kirsten

Brunner suggested I join Tri-County Carriage

Association. As a club that welcomes beginners,

TCCA was the perfect place for me to ask my

questions and attend clinics. Other members took

me under their wing and showed me what was

needed to start in the sport and go to my first show.

They loaned me equipment and clothes and helped

me when I finally started showing. As a volunteer, I

learned what was expected at a show and the rules

for the different classes. Over the years I have

attended and managed many shows and today more

than ever, I realize you can never stop learning.

In March of each year, TCCA has an

educational day where speakers focus on a specific

topic. In 2013 the subject was volunteerism and in

2014 it was safety. On March 7th, 2015, TCCA

will be holding a Dressage Educational Day at

Copetown Community Centre. Appropriate for

dressage riders and carriage drivers, the clinic will

review the different gaits and how to achieve them

on horseback and in a carriage. The expectations of

the different tests and the judging of horse/

rider/driver combinations will be reviewed, along

with other dressage related topics. Lunch will be

provided.

Judi Morris demonstrating long lining at a TCCA Clinic

Clinics are also an important part of the

TCCA experience. From line driving to how to drive

cones or obstacles, the topics are varied and you can

always pick up something new. This year TCCA is

hosting a clinic April 18 and 19, 2015 featuring

Nicole Cable. Nicole is an ADS and USEF judge,

who trains, shows and drives horses out of her

family farm in Batavia, New York. Individual or

group sessions will be available for horse and driver

or if you prefer you can audit the sessions.

Education is an important part of mastering a

new skill and TCCA is there to help you along the

process. If you wish further information on any of

the above events please refer to the Tri-County

Carriage Association website or contact Jean

McLean at [email protected].

A Big Thank You to our Sponsors

As the year comes to an end, all of the members of

Tri-County Carriage Association would like to thank

those who have so kindly sponsored our

organization this year. Without their help we would

not have been able to enjoy the calibre of shows,

ribbons and prizes that we have appreciated

throughout the year.

Due to sponsors the club was also able to

acquire many new signs this year and these make

our events easier to find and increase our profile to

the public. Orchard Park Stables (Barb Bowen and

Al Brick) and Sunny Acres Morgans (Tim and

Wendy Inch) had wonderful events at their facilities

and the club recognizes the many man hours they

put into preparation for these events. They were

appreciated.

As we begin to prepare for the 2015 season,

the club hopes members will consider sponsorship

and mention sponsorship of TCCA to businesses

that you have contact with.
