A Brief History

• In 1519, Spanish conquistadors claimed Nevada.

• In September of 1826, Jedediah Smith led his party were the first white men to enter Nevada.

• In 1846, the Donnor Party tragedy took place when, after being trapped in the snowy Sierra Nevada Mountains, they had to resort to cannibalism to survive.

• In 1864, Nevada finally became a state.• Over a century later, in 1994, the MGM Grand

Hotel was built in Las Vegas.
