THE UGLY DUCKLING
The main character in this story is the ugly duckling. The poor duckling thought that he was
ugly because he didnt know who he really was a swan because he was different from everyone
around him, he believed that he was what everyone said he was ugly and worthless. The others
picked on him because he was different. Once he discovered the truth of who he really was is
when he was set free from the bondage of all the untruth that he heard. He discovered who he
really was and flourished. A story about an egg that hatched into a rather ugly duckling. Teased
and taunted by the other ducks, the duckling ran away and encountered various other creatures,
some of which offered him help, others which laughed at him. At last, with the coming of the
next spring, discovered that he was an ugly duck because he wasnt a duck at all. For over the
winter he had grown into a graceful and elegant swan, the most beautiful of all the birds.
The setting of this book are good. This version of The Ugly Duckling is a great retelling of the
classic story, with an enriched exploration of the Ugly Ducklings feelings and experiences. The
illustrations are stunning. This book was absolutely wonderful, especially the illustrations.
Fairy tales book The Ugly Duckling story about a mother ducks eggs hatch, but the biggest
egg takes longer than all the others. A noisy neighbour open that the egg looks like a turkey egg.
When the egg finally hatches, Mother Duck is relieved to see that her newest son swims but he
must not be a turkey, but as ducklings go, hes not very good looking.
The unnamed ugly duckling lives an unpleasant life in the duckyard of the farm on which his
family lives. With the notable exception of his mother, he is not only disparaged for his looks, he
is often bullied and brutalized. In todays language, his self image and self-esteem suffers. He
flees.
Away from the farm, he finds himself in the wild. While he isnt brutalized, he remains an
outsider to the wild ducks, who warn him do not marry into our family.
The wild geese treat him better, inviting him into their world, but just as his hopes rise he and the
geese are set upon by hunters, and only he survives.

He seeks refuge in an old womans hut, but the womans pets, a cat and a chicken make life
unpleasant for him. So he heads back out into the wide, wild world and finds himself alone on
the brink of winter. The cold weather nearly kills him, but as spring arrives, he finds himself
feeling stronger and flies to a beautiful place with a collection of regal swans.
The ugly duckling has by now given up on life. He intends to place himself among the swans and
then expects them to simply kill him. Instead, they recognize him as one of their own. Looking at
his own reflection in the water, he sees that he is! In fact, the little children who visit the garden
think him the most beautiful swan of all.
My Prediction for the end of this book, the writer book and poet's many famous tales reveal great
compassion for the unfortunate and the outcast, along with an optimistic belief in the ultimatetriumph of goodness and beauty. Among his best known stories, the writer is said to have deeply
identified with is The Ugly Duckling . There's a surprise under each lift- up flap to add to the fun.
The flip ups will encourage prediction and discussion and well known stories will give beginning
readers confidence.
For those who may not be familiar with this classic, The Ugly Duckling tells the story of a
barnyard hatchling that is so ugly he is laughed at by the whole farmyard. Eventually he runs
away and experiences many challenging adventures as he grows and transforms. In the
triumphant ending, the ugly duckling is revealed to himself and those who shunned him as a
beautiful, graceful swan.
I like this book because The Ugly Duckling has been a childhood favourite and because of the
nuance and complexity of the story, this will continue to be a family favourite for years to come.
There are few moral of story from this book. The few moral of The Ugly Duckling is to not be
let down easily (be proud of yourself) and dont give up. It is good to care about someone, no
matter who it is. Other that, I expect there are few human beings on Earth who can't in some way
identify with this morality tale about the outsider's search for meaning and place in life. Its a
parable that teaches us much that matters: that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and only skin
