The Type Material of Family Erotylidae (Coleoptera) in the Museum and Institute of Zoology PAS, Warsaw

Abstract. The type specim ens o f beetles (Coleoptera) o f the fam ily Erotylidae, preserved in the M useum and Institute o f Z oology Polish A cadem y o f S cien ces, W arsaw, are listed.

The following list includes all the type specimens of the nominal species and subspecies, and the varieties and forms, the names of which were established before 1961 (Art. 45g, 71 of the International Code on Zoological Nomenclature, 3rd ed., 1985), preserved in the Museum and Institute of Zoology Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw (MZPW - Museum Zoologicum Polonicum, Warszawa).

Type specimens listed belong to the following categories: name-bearing types (holotype, lectotype, neo­type. syntype series); remaining specimens of type series (paratypes, paralectotypes).

The specimens included in the list are individually numbered and labeled for an inventory purposes. All specimens have two museum registration labels attached. One of them is white and bear the inscription in print "Mus. Zool. Polonicum Warszawa [accession No]", the second one is red with the following inscription in print: "Mus. Zool. Polonicum W arszawa Typus n. [museum type number] [original name, author and year] [kind of the type]".

The list is arranged alphabetically by genera and species according to the names in original descriptions. The species name is followed by the author bibliographic citation. Next follows the kind of the type and its original locality label in quotation marks. If the label does not include country, continent or other major geographic name that was recorded in the original publication, it is added after the label in [...].

The list is based on the specimens found in our collection, and it may not include all "types". This may happened because some specimens from old collections were not labeled clearly as types, and only detailed studies of pertinent specialists may reveal their status. It also does not list species that appear to be MS-

names, and which descriptions could not be located, nor specimens that the label-locality does not correspond to the original citation. When possible every potential type specimen was checked against the original description to confirm its status and reliability.

All the data published in the lists and some others are being simultaneously recorded in a computer data base in the Zoological Museum, and potential borrowers of the specimens may refer both to the name and to the number of particular specimen they want to borrow for study.
