FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

My Brothers and Sisters,

The Catholic Church is God’s human reality in this world. Yet, the Church is also a mystery. Even when we begin to understand something about the Church, it still remains an unfathomable mystery. The essence of the Church and the mission of the Church are often described in biblical images such as the house of God, the people of God, and the Body of Christ. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of Peter as the rock upon which He will build His Church. Each building, each structure, needs a firm foundation in order to last, including the Church, which is built on the foundation of the Apostles, particularly Peter. Christ is the cornerstone of the Church, and the Apostles are its foundation. We are St. Barbara Parish and we have a wonderful Church – built more than 100 years ago. And we are responsible to care for this temple, where generations pray, celebrate: baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals. I would like to encourage YOU - please remember to support St. Barbara Church spiritually and financial-ly. Thank you so much to everyone who supports our parish, especially our parish organizations, who do such a great job planning terrific events as fund-raisers. We all need to be supported in our faith, my brothers and sisters. Therefore, I would like to invite each of you to pray in a special way for the Holy Father and the Bishops—the foundation of the Church—that God may continue to give them the strength and in-sight which He gave to Peter when he acknowledged that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Fr. Arthur

Celebrating over a Century of Faith and Education

St. Barbara Parish is a Roman Catholic community celebrating a century of faith in the Bridgeport area. Our faith community welcomes all people, helping them grow spiritually through liturgy, prayer, and education, and socially through activities for all ages. Our school takes great pride in fostering these values in our children. We give witness to our faith by sharing with each other our God-given gifts and talents. We nourish and sustain our faith as a family by celebrating the sacraments and the presence of the risen Lord among us in the Eucharist.
