Indiana Epsilon’s Growth By Marcus Gahagen, Indiana Epsilon Eminent Archon

Greetings from Indiana Epsilon. Hope this letter reaches you in good spirits.

First, I would like to say thank you to everyone that came to homecoming week-

end. The chapter and myself enjoyed having you and visiting with you. I am

pleased to announce that Indiana Epsilon ended last semester with a strong

academic performance as the chapter obtained a 3.15 GPA. Our GPA ranked

higher than the all-male average and the all Greek male average. Six brothers

achieved a 4.0 GPA, and an additional eight men achieved a 3.7 GPA or higher.

The men of Indiana Epsilon also produced success outside the classroom by

putting in more than 1,400 hours of community service. I am proud of my broth-

er’s efforts in classroom, on campus, and in the community. With your support,

we as a chapter are looking to build off of last semester’s successes and are ex-

cited for the spring of

2019. Thank you for

your continued support

of Indiana Epsilon.

Sincerely,

Indiana Epsilon, once again, had a booth at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festi-

val to raise money for Chemo Buddies. Brothers took shifts selling walking

haystacks, root beer floats, dirt pudding, and apple cider. The chapter was

able to raise $2,500. Indiana Epsilon doubled its donation by participating in

Facebook’s Day of Giv-

ing, making the donation

to Chemo Buddies

$5,000. Indiana Epsilon

was recognized on Chan-

efforts. If you are inter-

ested in seeing the news

We would like to thank

stopped by our booth to

dies. We hope to see

you next year!

Chemo Buddies

Fall Fest

By Ryan Freeman, Alumni Relations

Chair

Indiana Epsilon recently began sup-

porting a new philanthropy rather

than supporting our national philan-

thropy. We now are supporting

Chemo Buddies with nationals ap-

proval. This nonprofit organization

brings goodies, blankets, hugs, and

more for all chemo patients in the tri

-state area. One of our brothers,

Torrin Madden (EA ‘17), was directly

supported by Chemo Buddies while

his mother fought breast cancer in

2016. The Chemo Buddy volunteers

were beside her during the entire

journey until she passed away. Tor-

rin asked us as a fraternity, if we

would consider changing our philan-

thropy and we were all on board.

Starting in 2017, Indiana Epsilon has

not looked back, we continue to

support Chemo Buddies since it hits

a little closer to home for our broth-

ers.

A Message from Chemo Buddies

By Jill Kincaid, Chemo Buddies Founder

When I first heard that the young men of SAE wanted to meet with me about

potentially sponsoring Chemo Buddies, my mind flashed back to those SAE

parties in the old frat house back when I was in college. “This will be inter-

esting,” I thought. Honestly, I could not even begin to imagine how a partner-

ship like that would work, and I was a wee bit skeptical but intrigued.

But then… I met with them. And through the years of working together every

single encounter has been such a blessing. While I’m sure my guys still know

how to throw a good party, the only thing I have witnessed is a bunch of kind,

generous over achievers who really want to make a difference in this commu-

nity. They are indeed, fine young gentlemen.

The most often asked question I get from them is, “what else can we do to

help?” I could not love this group of do-gooders any more than I already do.

I’m so proud of them! Their enthusiasm and willingness to serve impresses

me and gives me such hope for the future.

Chemo Buddies is a local nonprofit that was formed after my sister passed

away from cancer in 2011. Every time we were in the chemo room, we were

writing down ideas of how to make that experience better for the folks in the

recliners going through treatment. It is my passion and my mission to make

the chemo experience a positive one for every person in treatment and we

serve at every Evansville/Newburgh and Henderson facility. In 2018, we had

over 48,000 patient contacts at the facilities where we serve.

While our workforce is completely volunteer, the things we provide for pa-

tients do cost money, and fundraising is our biggest challenge. Our SAE part-

ners have become one of our largest contributors through the car show, the

Fall Festival Booth and the Paddy Murphy Pageant. We are able to do what

we do every day because of people like SAE who so lovingly offer their sup-

port.

On April 6, we are launching our first HOPEFEST and Hope 5K run. It is an

event for EVERYONE affected by cancer. I hope to see an SAE Alumni team!

This year we also began a program for Students called Student Buddies, and a

free class to help women after hair loss called Beauty Buddies. To learn more

about us, please check out our webpage ChemoBuddies.org.

see continued Alumni support.

New Officers Since our last election cycle in December 2018, new leaders have arose

within the Executive Council. The men who hold these positions have

done an outstanding job thus far, and will continue to lead Indiana Epsi-

more executive positions, this being House Manager and Alumni Rela-

Giving Back to Sigma Alpha Epsilon By Rick Shipley, Chapter Advisor

I would like to remind everyone about our National Foundation

Chapter Education Fund (CEF) for Indiana Epsilon (INEP). This is a way to

make a tax-deductible donation through National which is only given to Indi-

ana Epsilon, and it will count towards your SAE National life time giving. The

fund is controlled by National, and the funds will be used for only chapter

educational purposes (i.e. to send INEP members to SAE Leadership School,

SAE Ritual School). I’m very pleased to let you know that our CEF has over

$20,000. We received $5000 from National for being the 2011 Zeal Chapter

and the rest has been from Alumni donations, interest and dividends.

There are two ways to donate to the INEP CEF:

Option 1 – To make a gift using a credit card, go online and visit National’s

donation page: https://www.sae.net/donate Enter your Donor Information,

which includes pin number. Enter Donation Information, which includes

Amount and Fund designation = INEP CEF. You can also enter “Indiana Epsilon

Chapter Education Fund” in the comments or notes field. Then enter your

Billing Information. Once everything has been entered, then click on “Donate

Now”.

Option 2 - Send a check directly to the SAE Foundation. Please make checks

payable to SAE Foundation and write Indiana Epsilon Chapter Education Fund

or INEP-CEF in the Memo line. Then mail your check to: Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Foundation, 1856 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL 60201.

If you have any questions, you can go online and visit National’s Chapter

Funds page: https://www.sae.net/chapterfunds, or contact;

Jason Andrick / Associate Executive Director Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation

1856 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201-3837 [email protected] / (847) 424-

Remember our Creed:

The True Gentleman is the man

whose conduct proceeds from

good will and an acute sense of

propriety, and whose self-

control is equal to all emergen-

cies; who does not make the

poor man conscious of his pov-

erty, the obscure man of his

obscurity, or any man of his

inferiority or deformity; who is

himself humbled if necessity

compels him to humble anoth-

er; who does not flatter wealth,

cringe before power, or boast of

his own possessions or achieve-

ments; who speaks with frank-

ness but always with sincerity

and sympathy; whose deed fol-

lows his word; who thinks of the

rights and feelings of others,

rather than his own; and who

appears well in any company, a

man with whom honor is sacred

and virtue safe.
