The Torch of Truth A publication of Southland Bible Institute and Camp Evangel 238 W. Southland Drive Ashland, KY 41102 Volume 4, Number 3 Fall 2016 Design by Dr. Delma Lowery Camp Evangel Summer 2016 Camp has been used by God for decades, and the summer of 2016 was no different. We had been praying for and seeking a more dedicated and prepared group of summer staff that could be used by God to do amazing things. The Lord truly moved and provided workers that had hearts to see campers come to know Christ and to grow in Him. Some of our workers came from as far away as the Philippines, and others were second and third generation camp workers. It was a blessing to see how God used all of our summer workers and their different talents for His glory. Chapel and missionary speakers were used of the Lord to present a clear gospel message. Even though the devil tried to disrupt and discourage, we are thankful for the spiritual decisions that were made, 20 for salvation, and several others for reassurance and dedication. It was one of the best summers in many years and we thank God for His blessing. All of this would not have been possible without the fervent prayer and work of so many different individuals and churches. We would like to thank every individual, family, and church group for their part in impacting eternity. Please continue to pray for our campers and staff as they return to their homes and schools. We know that many return to difficult situations and it is very hard for them to take a stand for Christ. What a MIGHTY GOD we serve! For more pictures, check out our website. www.campevangel.org

Camp Evangel Summer 2016 Camp has been used by God for decades, and the summer of 2016 was no different.

STYLE

2016

We had high school students from WI, MI, VA, OH and KY for our week of STYLE (Spiritually

Training Youth for Life’s Encounters). They learned how they were chosen for salvation, for

dedication, for service, and for worship. Of course, the highlight of the week was the trip to

the Creation Museum, but in between classes, they also enjoyed the recreation room, going to

the local YMCA each afternoon, and good food. As one of the students put it, “Being in the classes has helped me to know how my life needs to be. I am so thankful for being here. The classes were such a blessing.” Please pray for these young people that they will be strong in

the Lord and will want to serve Him well.

Our desire would be to see them totally

dedicated to the Lord and come back to

study for full-time Christian service. For

more pictures, check out our website.

BRADLEY CHARLES QUACKENBUSH

July 19, 1953 - June 24, 2016 “Precious in the sight of God is the death of His saints”

Brad Quackenbush first came to Southland in the fall of 1971 from St. John, KS. He had heard about the school while visiting Camp Nathanael with a friend. At that point, I’m sure he never dreamed he would become such an integral part of the ministry. While a student he met Linda Good and they were married on June 22,

1973. After graduating from Southland, he continued his education at Dallas Bible College and Calvary Bible College. Brad and Linda returned to Southland as staff members in 1977, and were a vital part of the ministry for over 30 years, impacting countless lives for eternity. He made a difference in the lives he touched.

The Lord broadened the scope of his ministry when he joined Kentucky Mountain Mission in 2008 and began the “Apt to Teach” Ministries. Several trips overseas, as well as opportunities at camps, local churches, and other schools brought students under his teaching that may never have had that opportunity. His life and influence for the Lord reached around the world, and he taught with eternal values in mind. One of his favorite sayings summed up the type of person he was. “If anything of eternal value is accomplished, I didn’t have anything to do with it.” Many that were influenced by his testimony and ministry would disagree.

Other “Brad-isms” abounded at his memorial service as former students, friends, and co-workers paid tribute to the legacy he left behind. “Repetition, repetition, repetition,” “So what?” and “Don’t major on the minors and minor on the majors,” were just a few of the sayings that were mentioned. A well-loved and respected servant of God, Brad will be greatly missed by many. He no doubt was welcomed home with “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” He would want someone to pick up the torch and carry on. Would that someone be you? You could make a difference with what God has entrusted to you, just like Brad did.
