OUR BACKGROUND

Our organisation comes from a background in the tourism and hospitality sector in Southern Africa.

It is through our connections and knowledge of this industry that we are able to develop sustainable projects that meet the requirements of both local communities as well as the tourism and hospitality sector.

THE QOMALICIOUS COOKING SCHOOL

This project aims to provide township youth development and training in the form of a cooking school & organic food garden that connects the community to the tourism & hospitality industry.

Elements of the project include an organic food garden, guest lectures by South Africa's top professional chefs and training opportunities in some of South Africa's leading hotels and restaurants.

• Improve the lives of people in the township community by providing skills development & mastery in the form of a cooking school that connects township youth to employment opportunities.

• Strengthen the tourism and hospitality sector by educating, training & developing the future chefs of South Africa. Connecting the tourism and hospitality industry with local communities.

HOW IT WORKS

DELI SHOP ORGANIC FOOD GARDEN

A ONE YEAR PROGRAMME

12 month programme 5 days a week.

Workshops & Training

Placement & Internship

FOR MOTIVATED YOUTHEvery 12 months, 15 motivated, devoted students will be selected from the local township community to receive training and development. These students will act as ambassadors for their community.

FACILITATED BY PROFESSIONALS

The cooking classes will be led by a qualified chef from the local community. Chefs from some of South Africa’s top restaurants and hotels will also attend classes as guest lecturers to promote skills & cultural exchange.

Our Organic Food Garden is dedicated to our Cooking School.Students will spend time in the garden as part of their skills development.

THE AIM• Supply the kitchen with fresh organic

vegetables, fruits & herbs

• Educate our students about the food chain & how to cook with food directly form a garden

• Promote healthy eating & lifestyle, explain the effect of food on the body’s growth, development and health and the role it plays in the fight against HIV/AIDS, TB, Diabetes & Obessity.

• Teach & Train our students on how to plant, grow and harvest fresh, organic vegetables, fruits & herbs.

• Spread this message to the larger township community through our student ambassadors.

ORGANIC FOOD GARDEN

AN INTERGRATED DELI SHOP

A Deli shop that will sell products produced in the cooking school kitchen and from the organic food garden. The students will also bake confectionary products (e.g. biscuits, cookies) and sell them in bulk to our restaurant and hotel partners (with branded marketing).

THE AIM:To generate income and develop entrepreneurial skills through the sale of products from the kitchen and organic food garden.

TARGETING YOUTH FROM THE TOWNSHIP COMMUNITIES ON THE SOUTHERN PENINSULA:

After graduating, our students will be equipped to pursue three options:

1. STUDY: Continue studying through our partnership with the INTERNATIONAL HOTEL SCHOOL and the SOUTH AFRICAN CHEFS ASSOCIATION - National Youth Chefs Training Programme

2. JOB PLACEMENT: Be placed in a job with one of our restaurant and hotel partners

3. ENTREPRENEUR: Start their own business
