Mensch, a Person of Integrity
And Honor By: Alex Prince
נעמש
Alex Prince Mensch Mrs. Kander May 2011 Mensch, a Person of Integrity and Honor
There are many people in the world that can be classified as a Mensch. A Mensch is
someone of integrity and honor. You can look up to this person, and they are always caring and
giving. This is what classifies a Mensch. A Mensch can be your teacher, parent, family member,
Rabbi, or just someone who is an all around outstanding person. My Rabbi, Avrohom Richter, is
a Mensch.
Avrohom Richter for years has gone out of his way to donate to charity. Every Friday and
Saturday after the Sabbath services he would politely ask people of his chabbad if they would
like to donate any amount of money to charity. Also, if anybody asked him for any help, no
matter what the situation was, he would help them. He is an outstanding and generous person. He
is a role model to many people and always shows graditude.
I have known Rabbi Richter since I was three years old. Since I met him I know all about
his charity work and how he helps the community. But besides this type of job that he volunteers
to do, he works in a prison as a federal chaplain. A federal chaplain is a member of the clergy
who conducts religious services for an institution, such as a prison or hospital. He goes around to
all of the Jewish prisoners to talk about what they have done that has put them into where they
are now. Then he would pray with the person to help him redeem himself. He never holds a
grudge against anyone, and he always listens to what someone has to say. He shows his
generosity from his occupation by how he helps the prisoners in prison. He is a Mensch.
Besides working as a federal chaplain, and helping the community, he also ran a temple.
For every holiday, Sabbath, or Kiddush, he would invite the congregation that always went to his
Chabbad. He shows how he is an unbelievable Mensch because of everything he does for not
himself, but for the congregation. He is a role model, to not just me, but too many people. He is
married and has six children. He will never ask anyone for just a penny to pay for a party room
for a holiday such as Passover or Purim, he would pay for it himself. He always is polite and
respects everyone. Everyone respects him and he deserves it.
He is a Mensch because of what he does to help the community, the congregation, and
the prisoners. His generosity, and integrity gives him plenty of respect. Since the word Mensch
means someone of integrity and honor, I believed he was the right person that would be known
as a Mensch. Without Avrohom Richter, there would be one less Mensch in the world.
