Jesus made a very confusing claim once “I AM” Was the name Jehovah, the name of

God◦ Jesus had just claimed HE was God◦ But we know God spoke to Jesus

The Nature of God is a Paradox◦ God is ONE◦ God is Three Persons:

The Father The Son The Holy Spirit

John 8:57-59 Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?“ Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him

John 8:57-59 Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?“ Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him John 12:28

"Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again."

God used a special name for Himself (the most common name in the Bible)

ELOHIM Created all things; ◦ God the Father created all things◦ God the Son created all things◦ God the Holy Spirit created all things

THEREFORE: Elohim is the name of God in Three persons

Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...... So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them"

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God <'elohiym> created the heaven and the earth"

Isaiah 44:24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who

spreads abroad the earth by Myself;

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds

Psalm 104:30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth.

Page 6: The Threefold nature of God - Trinity

God the Father has these qualities:◦ Omniscient (all knowing)

◦ Omnipotent (all powerful)

◦ Omnipresent (all present)

◦ Eternal (unconstrained by time)

Page 7: The Threefold nature of God - Trinity

God the Son has these qualities:◦ Omniscient (all knowing)

◦ Omnipotent (all powerful)

◦ Omnipresent (all present)

◦ Eternal (unconstrained by time)

Mark 2:8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned (in their hearts)

Matt 28:18 (Jesus said) "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Matt 28:20 “…..and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

1Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible…..

God the Holy Spirit has these qualities:◦ Omniscient (all knowing)

◦ Omnipotent (all powerful)

◦ Omnipresent (all present)

◦ Eternal (unconstrained by time)

1 Cor 2:11No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

Psalm 104:30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;

Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

Hebrews 9:14 (Christ) through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God,

Page 9: The Threefold nature of God - Trinity

Throughout scripture it is testified that God is three persons◦ God the Father is called God◦ God the Son is called God◦ God the Holy Spirit is called God

The Bible does not have the word Trinity, but instead uses the expression “GodHead”

Mark 12:29 Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one."John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"John 4:24 "God is Spirit"1 Cor. 3:16 "you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you“ I Cor. 6:19 "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit"

Acts 17:29 “….. we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device."; Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse"; Col 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily

The Three-fold nature of God is revealed:

◦By the Creative Power of Elohim◦By the Divine Nature and Quality of God

◦By the Divine Revelation of God

Page 11: The Threefold nature of God - Trinity

A Father who has authorized Salvation

A Son who has worked Salvation

A Holy Spirit who has revealed Salvation

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

1 Tim. 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

1 Cor. 2:10 But God has revealed (that which he has prepared) to us through His Spirit

Page 12: The Threefold nature of God - Trinity

The Spirit reveals God’s will – do you believe?◦ Romans 10:17

The Son commands obedience – will you obey?◦ Repentance: Acts 2:38◦ Confession: Romans 10:9◦ Baptism: Mark 16:16

The Father desires your salvation – will you come? 1Timothy 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight

of God our Savior who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth
