The Three States Of MatterBY: Christian Boyd

8th Grade

Page 2: The three states of matter

Solid

• Solid-The state of matter that has a definite volume and shape. The molecules move slow and stay in a square shape. They vibrate when they move.

Page 3: The three states of matter

Liquid (cont.)

• There are Two properties in the liquid matter

• 1.Surface Tension-the force that act on particles on the surface

• 2.viscosity- A liquid resistance to flow

Page 4: The three states of matter

Did You Know

• Did you Know that a single helium tank can fill about 700 balloons .The reason that the tank can do that is

because its under pressure

Page 5: The three states of matter

Gases

• Gas-the state of Matter that has no definite shape or volume. The molecules in the gas move so quickly and stay far apart. The amount of space between the Gas can change.

Page 6: The three states of matter

Did You Know

• Did you Know that solids move slow, liquid move medium fast, and gases move constantly.

Page 7: The three states of matter

The two kinds of solids

• There are two kinds of solids.

Crystalline and Amorphous solids

Crystalline

Amorphous

Viscosity

• Viscosity-a liquids resistance to

flow.

Low Viscosity

High Viscosity

Page 9: The three states of matter

Boyle’s Law

• Boyle’s law-As the pressure of a gas increases, the volume decreases by the same amount

Page 10: The three states of matter

Charles Law

• Charles Law-the volume of a gas changes the same when the temperature of the gas changes.

Examples of Solid

• Wood• Humans• Computers• Leaves• Earth• Glass• Grass• Dirt

Page 12: The three states of matter

Examples of Liquid

• Water• Pop• Blood• Acid• Lava• Coffee• Syrup

Page 13: The three states of matter

Examples Of Gas

• Air• Water Vapor• Chemical Vapors• Helium• Oxygen• Carbon Dioxide

Page 14: The three states of matter

Sublimation

• Sublimation-the state in which the solid is immediately changed to gas.

• It occurs when something very cold is put in a very warm temp.
