Very clearly explained. An excellent presentation. Made it fun, challenging. I will go back to class with a wealth of knowledge about the English language and phonetics. I also have a fantastic range of practical ideas for my class and can start these immediately. THRASS will cater for all levels. A very exciting course.

Brilliant. Loved all the components of the program. I can see how it’s going to help improve many aspects of children’s reading and spelling through phonetics. There were lots of great ideas for games, etc. A fantastic program Looking forward to getting it started.

An absolutely brilliant Professional Development program. Both days were exceptionally rewarding on all levels: knowledge, new information, professional and personal. The challenge now is to adopt these strategies in to the classroom/school work life.

Definitely one of the best PDs I’ve attended. The THRASS system is enlightening in so many ways - pure genius. My understanding of the phonetics of English and my students is greater.

Thank you for such a challenging yet enjoyable day filled with inspiration and enthusiasm. Many thanks from my children at school, they thoroughly enjoy the THRASS program. I’m sure they will enjoy and benefit from the new games/activities and strategies we have gone through today.

A really good course that challenged my own understandings about the English language. That will change my teaching. I am a graduate and feel that this course should be part of gaining a university degrees in teaching. I can go away from this course feeling confident in teaching phonetics such as digraphs, trigraphs, etc. I feel that I will see great improvements in the students’ spelling and understandings.

TEACHER EVALUATIONS

THRASS is committed to 'teaching mastery' in literacy.

THE THRASS INSTITUTE (Australasia & Canada) • www.thrass.com.au

The THRASS INSTITUTE (Australasia & Canada) is an Australian company that over the last 15 years has developed a specific pedagogical practise (SPP) known as THRASS - an acronym for 'Teaching Handwriting Reading and Spelling Skills'.

The THRASS SPP has been designed to provide teachers with a multisensory, phonographic methodology, to deliver positive learning outcomes in the literacy skills that are critical in mastering the other cornerstones of basic education.

THRASS is designed to build both content, and pedagogical knowledge. THRASS is the only comprehensive phonetics teaching process designed specifically as a teacher training program for the teaching of speaking, reading and writing skills in English, as a first or other language.

THRASS is an explicit phonographic approach to teaching reading and spelling skills to learners of any age. It is dependent on the competence, commitment and understanding of the teacher using the pedagogy, and because of its specific learning technique should not be combined with other more widely used and out-dated, letter-to-sound programs.

THRASS does not depend on specific intervention with individual learners but rather focuses on instructing teachers in the technique for whole-class implementation. Rather than being an additional task for an already too-busy teacher to work into a cluttered curriculum, THRASS is designed to form a cornerstone around which the teacher can build their classroom reading and writing activities spanning all areas of the curriculum.

THRASS does not subscribe to a 'workbook' model that provides ready-made written lesson plans or workbooks for teachers. Our SPP requires genuine commitment and understanding by the teacher. This is why others have tried to imitate but have failed to match THRASS.
