KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH There’s no better way to deepen our Lenten practice than to review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right relationship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the Sabbath. If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be served. The sick will go unattended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work? How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)? We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath time in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gift: one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As Psalm 19 proclaims: “The law of the Lord is perfect, / refreshing the soul” (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gift, to be received from God with joy, not with nitpicking.

SANTIFICA EL SÁBADO No hay mejor forma de profundizar nuestras devociones de Cuaresma que repasar los Diez Mandamientos. Los primeros tres, los cuales se refieren a una buena relación con Dios, son más extensos. Quizás el que más nos cueste a nosotros, que siempre estamos tan ocupados, es santificar las fiestas refiriéndose al día del Señor.

Si tomáramos este mandamiento literalmente, no cambiaríamos a los bebés, los platos quedarían en la mesa y quizás ni siquiera serviríamos las comidas. Los enfermos no serían atendidos y no se haría nada que estuviera relacionado con el trabajo físico. ¿Se considera trabajo al trabajo mental? ¿Y qué hay de cambiarle el pañal al bebé (¡pobrecito!)? Debemos depender de Dios para discernir de qué manera debemos respetar y santificar el día del Señor en nuestras vidas. La clave de este mandamiento es que Dios nos ha dado un gran regalo: un día entero por semana en el cual somos libres para descansar, rendir-le culto a Dios, cantar, celebrar, amar y alegrarnos. Co-mo proclama el Salmo 19 (18): “Los mandatos del Se-ñor son rectos y alegran el corazón” (19 [18]:8). Nuestro descanso del domingo es un gran regalo que debemos recibir de Dios con alegría, no poniendo peros.

RCIA Scrutinies - The scrutinies, are rites for self-searching and repentance which will be celebrated at the 9:30AM Mass on

Sundays, March 4th, 11th and 18th. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, Who is the way, The truth, and The Life. These rites, therefore, should complete the conversion of the elect and deepen their resolve to hold fast to Christ and to carry out their decision to love God above all.

RICA Escrutinios - Los escrutinios, son ritos para el auto-examen y para mover al arrepentimiento y primordialmente una

finalidad espiritual que se celebran los Domingos 4, 11 y 18 de Marzo durante la Misa de 12:30pm. Los escrutinios tienen por objeto el descubrir y posteriormente el sanar todo aquello que es débil defectuoso o pecaminoso en los corazones de los elegidos; y resal-tar y luego fortalecer todo lo que es recto, fuerte y bueno. Los escrutinios se celebran a fin de librar a los elegidos del poder del pe-cado, de protegerlos de la tentación, y de darles fuerza en Cristo, quien es El Camino, La Verdad, y La Vida. Estos ritos, por lo tanto deben ayudar a la conversión total de los elegidos y a profundizar su resolución de mantenerse estrechamente unidos a Cristo y de proseguir con mayor decisión en su esfuerzo por amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas.

Practices: Prayer - Personal prayer, Rosary, daily Mass; Fasting - Giving up some activity, food or bad habit

Almsgiving - Providing for the needs of others with time or Money

Regulations:Days of abstinence from meat include Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent (14 years of age and older)

Days of fasting include Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (18 years of age and not yet 59) Days of optional fasting include Holy Thursday and Holy Saturday

Fasting:Only one full meal is allowed. 2 other small meals are allowed that do not equal another full meal. No eating between meals.

Abstinence: No meat on Fridays during Lent. Where health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not apply.

No Baptisms during Lent We remind you that our parish does not schedule any baptisms during the Lenten Season from February 14, 2018 to March 31, 2018. They are routinely deferred to the Easter Season. As always, a medical emergency baptism will be held at any time as the need arises.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul of St. Anthony Claret Church would like to say a “HUGE THANK YOU” to Mr. Ray M. Quihuiz for his years of service and leadership to the society.

Ray exemplifies the motto of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul by helping the less fortunate in our area or where ever he was needed. By doing this, Ray was awarded the first Top Hat Award of the year from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Orange County Council.
