This topic will concentrate on the concept of trait theory, Trait is
very important in understanding leadership f unction and its
nature. Trait theory narrated in the early researches (20th
century) who looked into this illusive concept of leadership,
believed that if they studied individuals who were perceived to
be good leaders, they would find the answer to what it takes
to be a good leader.
Traits were assumed to be from nature, meaning that we were
born to be leaders.

What is Trait?What is Trait?� Hippocrates, an ancient philosopher, greek physician, and father of
medicine, who made a description of personality types based on bodyhumour.
� Hippocrates mentioned that Effective leaders were believed to show
common characteristics that cause them to be in certain ways. Trait isdefined as a distinguishing quality of characteristics, typically onebelonging to a person.
� According to him, Traits are inborn and inherited from the parents andforefathers.
� Most authors believed that leaders and followrs vary in terms of:Intelligence, Dominance, Self-confidence, level of energy and activity, and
task-relevant knowledge� The more intelligent a person, the more he/she has the potential to lead
and exercise power of authority.
� Members and followers want their leaders to be credible, honest, forward-looking and competent.
