Were you at Texas FBLA's State Leadership Conference? No? Well here is what went down. On Thursday, March 7th welcome day commenced.Chapters from schools all over Texas began to arrive at thehotel. I was an exciting time to be alive. Later that nightseniors were able to socialize and network to the seniorsocial. It was an amazing opportunity that I was glad I tookadvantage of. The last event of the night, and the mostexciting, was opening ceremony. The ceremony was full offun music and awards! The next day and everyone's favorite, was competition day.Although the day is stressful, there were many activities tosoothe some of it, including exhibition booths andinformational workshops. The last day (**tear**) was the award ceremony. Themorning brought on feelings of accomplishment andhappiness. Congratulations to all of our Texas winnermoving on to nationals! On behalf of all the former officer, I want to tank everyonewho attended SLC! We worked very hard to organizeeverything for you guys. The 2019 state competition was my very first state competitionfor fbla ever. It began with a trip from the city of El Paso to the
beautiful city of Houston. We were able to stay at a nice hotel inthe city which made the trip feel like home. Once at the hotel
and attending workshops and opening ceremonies I got to seeall the different students from all over Texas. All with different
perspectives and knowledge. I was excited to be able tointeract with some of them as we went up in the elevator. Thisinteraction here and there gave me a different perspective in
Fbla. I got to learn a lot from all the speakers, competitors andjudges that helped me better myself for future competitions
and to bring a little something home for my chapter. I could saythat to be my very first SLC it was extraordinary full of learning
and fun experiences.
From influential workshops to exceptionalceremonies, this year’s Texas State LeadershipConference was full of refreshing experiences!By far, my favorite part of the SLC was thekeynote speaker, and this year’s speakercompletely blew me away. Chris was incrediblymemorable, and his stories genuinely inspiredme, leaving me as a changed person at heart. His mindset struck deep within me and allowedme to view the world from a differentperspective. He helped us realize that byenvisioning the impact one can have on theircommunity, it makes changing the world muchmore tangible. Finally, I enjoyed helping myfellow officer campaign for State Reporter-Historian. Being a voting delegate, I was able toexperience the complexity of the voting processas well as the caucus that came before it.Overall, it was quite an enlightening experience.
The thrill and excitement was inevitable for students whoqualified to attend this years Texas FBLA State LeadershipConference in “space city”, Houston, Texas. MPHS’s Erica Salazar, says she “participated in the digital video production” event.Salazar speaks about her “unforgettable experience” she states,“The speaker at the State Leadership Conference made [her]realize that [she] wants to worry about what [she] can do now tofurther [her] education and career. Whilst competing in [her] event[she] also learned about how vital it is to give back to others whoare less fortunate” As she competed this year in digital videoproduction her topic about Giving Tuesday enabled her teammatesand self to branch out to her community by becoming more awareof her surroundings. I asked Salazar what was her favorite thingthat occurred while in Houston, she says it “was getting to listen tospeakers and what they had to say as well as exploring the city ofHouston with friends.” Finally, Salazar explains that the mostinteresting thing she found at the SLC was “the amount of ark workthere was in Downtown Houston and how many professionalpeople there were around the city which made [her] reason howone day [she] could be just like them.” Though Salazar, did notadvance to the National Leadership Conference she is “happy foreveryone who will be attending!” FBLA will be hosting their annualNational Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas starting June29th through July 2nd. Hope to see you there!

This 2018-2019 school year for our Fbla chapter was full of adventures, learningexperiences and long lasting friendships. The year began with some couple of workshops to pick ourevents. Then we followed up to have some fun activities. Fbla fundraiser to attend the fall Nationalleadership conference at Albuquerque New Mexico where the Fbla members learned a lot of ideas tobring back to our chapter and shared friendships with other chapters. We began to have our smallsocials which the first one was the Halloween social where we watched spooky movies and had somesnacks. This social was meant to give back to our chapter and to bond with one another. After this thehard work began for our city Fbla competition where we had workshops for anyone that wanted somehelp with their project. And lastly we had our State leadership Conference where the hard work paid ofand the outcome came out to 10 qualifying national competitors. From this whole year of funadventures with my valle verde Fbla chapter I got to see some awesome thing I’ll like to keep for nextyear but also some things I would like to implement. For example I would like to implement communityservice within our Fbla chapter so we can learn as leaders to give back to our community. I am verythankful for this 2018-2019 Valle Verde Echs Fbla chapter.

Volunteering. Each second we devote towards volunteering not only has thepotential to make a difference in our community but make a difference inourselves as well. As cheesy as it sounds, the influence we can bring to societysimply by donating our time is phenomenal, and it’s an even better feelingwhen you witness the impact of your work. And sometimes you especially feelit if you are assigned a laborious task like moving dozens of crates of cannedfood because you’ll be sore for the next half week or so. But honestly, it’s soworth it to know you’re helping so many people. Throughout my three years inFBLA, event after event, I have been fortunate enough to feel this satisfaction, and it has left an everlasting impression upon me. Personally, the mostmemorable volunteering events would be assisting in local races and whereI’ve met others not just involved with FBLA but with different organizations aswell. Each year our chapter partakes in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s andTurkey Dash, both of which are events to help fundraise towards improving thecommunity. Facilitating the success of these functions have not only educatedme about the world we live in but have generated a sense of appreciationwithin myself for the efforts that are dedicated towards the betterment of ourpeople. I’ve had the opportunity to form closer bonds with members in my ownchapter and even establish connections with other chapters while workingtowards a common goal. This is why I keep signing up to volunteer, as thememories created and experience received is often intangible elsewhere. Aswell, I wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity of taking photos for my lovelychapter members and getting free food (often bananas - lots of them) and otherrandom items (including, but not limited to, shirts, stickers, bubbles, and theoccasional cowbell) during the event. In regards to Cinco Ranch specifically, wewere so inspired by these races that we decided to host our own last year afterwitnessing the detrimental effects of Hurricane Harvey on our community. Wecalled it “Color for a Cause”, and it was a fun color run (wow, look at thatrhyming) to raise money for the Arc of Katy, a local organization which providesopportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, whos facility was flooded earlier that fall. After months of planning, preparation, and discovering the potential of rain on race day to be likely just days beforethe event, (fortunately, it didn’t) the color run was a huge success. We hadhundreds of participants, whether they were runners, volunteers, or sponsors, and raised over $6000 for the Arc of Katy. It was a happy ending to the story, and the impact we made on our community left an everlasting impression onus. To continue this legacy, we’re holding Color for a Cause once again thisyear (you can visit our website at www.colorforacause.weebly.com). Theinfluence of volunteering at these races not only challenged our members tomake a difference in our community but inspired our chapter to take action aswell.

The easiest way to make aresume is to start with a template.Microsoft word and Google Docshave customizable templates withmany sections to insert your owninformation. The sections youshould have are header, education, work experience, andextracurricular activities. Awards, honors, and skills are optional.
The header of your resume shouldinclude your full name and yourcontact information, such as:phone number, home address, andemail. Make sure your name islarge and easy to see. Theeducation portion should includethe name of your high school, yourexpected date of graduation, andyour GPA. The work experiencesection can be taken a couple ofways. For each job you've had, include the company or employer, your position, the dates youworked there, and yourresponsibilities. If you have notworked, then you can replace thissection with volunteer work.

The extracurricular activities section ofyour resume is going to be whereselection committees will get the bestlook at who you are as an individual andas a student. Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after
Thanksgiving to reach out to our communities
and kick off the charitable season. This day is
fueled through the power of social media and
collaboration. This year, Mount Pleasant High
School’s (MPHS) FBLA chapter decided to
partner with local charity, Grace Case. Grace
case is a non-profit organization that allocates
resources such as school supplies, comfort
and toiletry items to children in the CASA
program, or foster care system. Our chapter’s
Digital Video Production competing team
created an inspiring video explaining how
FBLA is impacting our communities starting
with one at a time.

Thank you, for not only showing
me how much it means to be a leader, but
how much it means to be apart of an
organization that almost leads itself. Each
and every chapter, area, state have
impacted me in a way that I couldn’t
imagine. I’ve learned so many new and
life progressing things. You’ve taught me
what it means to be ethical in a business
environment. To my state officer team, I
love you all so much. You all will never
leave my heart and the vast memories
that we made will be stuck deep in my
heart and soul forever. To Mrs. Crook and
Mrs. Matlock, I couldn’t have asked for
better mentors and this long but very
short journey. You guys are the definition
of hard working, both of you did so much
for me and our team and I couldn’t thank
you enough times. I love y’all. To my
parents, thanks for putting up with me and
all the crazy, busy things I do. To my
advisor, thank you, for being a mother
away from home, a true leader in the
minds of a young generation and most of
all, one of my very best friends. Thank
you Texas FBLA, thank you so much for
all the memories. Keep up the good work
and never forget where you came from!
FAREWELL TEXAS FBLA!
Thank you so much for the past 5 years. These experiences
and memories are invaluable. Although my time as a
member and a state officer has come to an end, I will forever
be indebted to this organization for making me who I am
today. I hope every single member in the state of Texas is
able to immerse themselves in every single opportunity that
is presented. Lead in FBLA with an open mind and full heart,
I promise it will be the best decision you’ve made. I hope you
will encounter amazing people and learn so many valuable
lessons, as I know I have.
It is sad to say goodbye, but every person I’ve met and
the adventures I’ve had are now forever in my heart.
FBLA has changed my life, and I hope you allow it to
change yours.

From my first SLC in San Antonio, I knew that I has fallen in
love with that amazing organization and the people in it.
Thank you so much for allowing me to meet such wonderful
people, travel to amazing places, and experience the great
career and skill building opportunities that FBLA has to offer.
My high school experience would not have been nearly as busy,
rewarding, and especially fun without FBLA. Although my time
in FBLA has come to an end, for many of you, it is either just the
beginning or you at least still have a year or two left. with that
in mind, I have a few pieces of advice. First, take advantage of
every opportunity that is placed in front of you. Whether this is
meeting a guest speaker at one of your chapter meetings or
running for an officer position in your chapter, area, or for the
state, be sure to take the opportunity. Even if you think you
may not succeed or that it isn't worth it, every opportunity that
is presented to you through FBLA has the potential to be a
pivotal moment. ELENA GIL

This brings me to my second piece of advice: don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.Although doing a speaking event or running for an officer position may seem intimidating, theseare both extremely rewarding experiences that can provide you with valuable skills for collegeand the workplace. And lastly, don't forget to have fun! Competitive events and the stress of SLCcan seem daunting and at times is very serious, but going to conferences and being a part of thisamazing organization is also lots of fun! Take advantage of making new friendships and andgetting to experience new places! My Texas FBLA experience is now behind me, but thememories and friendships I've made will last a lifetime. Thank you FBLA for an incredible journeythat I will cherish forever.
Saying goodbye is never easy, nor
should it ever be easy. Goodbye
symbolizes the end, but it also symbolizes
the beginning of a new era. FBLA has
been an extraordinary part of my life ever
since I have reinstituted my chapter at my
school, I have grown to be someone who
I would have never imagined to be. That
boy who said, "I do," at my induction
ceremony changed throughout this year.
The people around me have guided me to
success. FBLA isn't just an organization
that prepares me for the future now is it
jus an organization that allows me to
network, but it is an organization that
provides me with a family. My farewell to
you all is quite different from those
leaving for good from our astounding
family, because I'll be back next year
leading our state towards success in
everything we do as your 2019-2020 state
president. To those who are leaving,
thank you, and to those who are coming
in, get ready for a journey with exciting
experiences!
From my first conference to our final SLC, FBLA has
been one of the highlights of my time in high school.
Being a part of this year’s State action team has shown
me the power of amazing organization. I have been
able to grow and thrive with Texas FBLA, and I will
never forget all that I have been able to accomplish. I
want to thank my fellow state officers because each of
you have helped me become a stronger leader and
better person. I will forever cherish the time we spent
together. I want to thank my advisers for mentoring
me throughout this wild ride, and my chapter for
standing behind me and supporting me at every step.
Finally, I want to thank you, Texas FBLA. You guys have
given me the chance to serve you and grow as a
leader, and now I want you to grow into amazing
leaders I know you can be. You have been a wonderful
group of people to serve, and I wish the best of luck to
the new officers. Continue to explore new frontiers and
become the leaders that will change the world.

In three short years, FBLA taught me how to be a leader, how to care for others, and how to set
goals and achieve them. FBLA has taught me so much more than just how to compete and win
awards. Joining was the greatest decision I have made throughout my time in high school, and I
wish I would have done it sooner. The members have empowered me to become a leader, and
my fellow officers have pushed me to achieve things I never thought possible This year would
not have been a success without the support of the members of Texas FBLA, our advisors, the
Board of Directors, our State Advisor, State Officer Coordinator, and parents. I cannot thank each
of them enough for entrusting us to lead this esteemed organization over the past year. Texas
FBLA, it is time that we say our final goodbye. You have taught me so much, and I cherish every
memory that came from out time together. I hope others find the success I found within this
organization. Thank you for taking me in and molding me into the person I am today.

My time to say goodbye has come. From 10th gradeuntil now, you have been my home away from home. From San Antonio to Dallas to Houston, eachconference has molded me into a better leader than Iwas before. Leaving this organization has been thehardest goodbye, but all good things must come toan end. Walking into my first meeting, I did not thinkthis was an organization that would adequatelyrepresent me. I joint hesitantly, and quickly realizedhow much more their was to offer than just businessevents. I found my niche, and excelled. Fromcompeting in a presentation event to a test, I learnedwhat my strong suits were and where myweaknesses resided.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as
your 2018-2019 area 7 state vp. It has
been a true honor. I cannot say
enough how grateful I am for the
opportunities and friendships that
FBLA has given me. The past few
years in this organization have been a
blast and I wish I didn't have to say
goodbye. All the lessons I've learned,
memories I've made, and bonds I've
created will forever stay with me. To
my fellow seniors: good luck on the
next step of your life, whatever it may
be, I wish you all the best. To everyone
else: stick with FBLA. It has so much
to offer its members and it's an
amazing experience to be a part of.
Finally, from none other than the wise
Dr. Seuss, "Don't cry because it's over,
smile because it happened." Thank
you all!
Words cannot even begin to express how much
gratitude I feel for FBLA. This organization is beyond
ordinary. It changes you into a person beyond
imaginable. This organization changes every member
into the extraordinary. This past year I was given the
opportunity to serve as your Texas state
Parliamentarian. This whole experience was life-
changing. FBLA has provided me with an amazing
group of individuals to work along side for the year. We
all become close and watched each other grow. From
officer training all the way to SLC, the few times spent
together were cherished down to the second. I can't
wait to see all my fellow officers' accomplishments for
the years to come. Thank you FBLA for granting me the
pleasure to serve as the 2018-2019 Texas
state Parliamentarian. Besides the amazing experience
of serving on the Texas state action team, FBLA helped

This is it! This year has been a rollercoaster, with manyhigh and many lows, but it is one I would never stopriding. First I would like to thank Ms. Crook, Ms. Matlock, and Ms. Clayton. Together, they have mad me into theofficer I am today. Over this year I have learned so muchfrom them that not only helped me grow as a officer, butwill help me grow as a person as well. Ms. Turner - Graywhere do I begin. You are my supporter, my friend, andmy confidant. Without you I would have not achieved norattempted half of what I have. I will sorely miss youwhen I graduate high school and have no doubt that Iam leaving my sister in great hands. I cannot thank youenough for all you have done for me. To my family, mymain support system, Thank you! you guys never fail toprovide me guidance and endless love as I do the thingsthat make me happy. You guys always have my back, even when I fail. Thank you. Finally, to Texas FBLAthank you. You guys have truly made this year the best.I was driven to be the best officer I could be for youguys' sake. I'm leaving you guys in the hands of yetanother amazing officer team. Good Luck! I love thisorganization and I'm torn to be leaving it, but now it'stime for college. Wish me Luck!
I never thought for a second that I would be capable of talking to a group of 10 students let
alone 2000 people. FBLA has built confidence and strength into the young timid freshman and
now I am proud to be who I am today. FBLA has prepared me for the world ahead wherever it
takes me. FBLA is amazing nd it pains me to say goodbye. I hope y'all can get the same from
FBLA as I have. Thank you again!
I joined FBLA as an eager freshman, just looking to make some friends and learn more about the business
world. Little did I know how much this organization would come to mean to me.
Over the past four years, FBLA has become my family. From my local officer team at Seven Lakes to the
Texas State Action Team, I have created a plethora of laughter-filled memories, and I will always cherish them
deeply. Through the late nights planning events, the debates over how to accomplish our goals, and the frantic
mornings rushing to get things done, work with them didn’t feel like work, and if I had the chance, I’d do it all
over again.
Additionally, FBLA has pushed me to grow in ways like no other. I’m no longer the freshman who turned red
from just reciting the pledge at a chapter meeting. Now, I can speak in front of thousands of people (although I
still get nervous, I can hide it a little better now)! All jokes aside, I’ve branched out to meet people from all over
the state, the nation, the world, and my life has become so much more meaningful because of the people in it.
I’ve developed assurance in who I am as a leader and as a person, and because of FBLA, I’m ready for
whatever the future throws at me.
I knew this day was coming, but I still never thought it actually would. If I have one thing to say, it’s
this: put effort into everything you do, and make the most of your time in FBLA. Challenge yourself to
take different events, explore the cities you travel to, and talk to new people wherever you go, trust
me, the outcomes are worth it. In FBLA, I’ve found myself and my family, and I hope you do the
same. Texas FBLA, thank you for everything. It has truly been an honor serving as your 2018-2019

With a few months left in high school, I am left to reflect on thepast four years. I’ll be the first to admit that I hate cliché’s and itmay be due to memory loss, but it has truly felt like high schoolhas gone by in the blink of an eye, with the days and weeks allblending together in an indistinct jumble of memories. But theexperiences that stick out to me most, and I hope to hold ontoforever are the experiences I have had with FBLA. FBLA, I cansay without a doubt in my mind, has been the pinnacle of myhigh school experience.
I couldn’t have travelled to the places I fell in love with, met the amazing people that Ihave the pleasure to know, learned the essential business knowledge that I will carry withme into my career, and attained the leadership skills that have built the confidence I havetoday, without this organization. To all of those who allowed me to serve: thank you fromthe bottom of my heart, for entrusting in me to lead Texas FBLA, and to those who stillhave time left in this organization, take advantage of every moment and seize everyopportunity, because before long, you’ll be looking back, like me on one of the greatestadventures of your life. Goodbye Texas FBLA, I love you and will miss you from thebottom of my heart.
