our lesson entitled, “Blessing the Children” in our study

In the children who were

brought in contact with Him,

Jesus saw the men and women

who should be heirs

of His grace and subjects

of His kingdom,

and some of whom would

become martyrs for His sake.

He knew that these children

would listen to Him and accept

Him as their Redeemer

far more readily than would

grown-up people, many of

whom were the worldly-wise

and hardhearted.

In His teaching He came

down to their level.

He, the Majesty of heaven,

did not disdain to answer

their questions,

and simplify His important

lessons to meet their childish

understanding.

He planted in their minds

the seeds of truth,

which in after years would

spring up, and bear fruit

unto eternal life.

Question: Boys & girls, what did Jesus see

in the children who were brought

in contact with Him?

And, what did He know that these

children would far more readily do

than grown-up people?

Jesus saw the men and women who should be heirs of

His grace and subjects of His kingdom, and some

of whom would become martyrs for His sake.

And, that these children would listen to Him and

accept Him as their Redeemer, many of whom

were the worldly-wise and hardhearted.

God is able so to mold it that it will be sweet and Christlike.

and thus bring heaven into your life here below.

the most susceptible to the

teachings of the gospel;

their hearts are open to divine

influences, and strong to retain

the lessons received.

The little children may be

Christians, having an

experience in accordance with

their years. They need to be

educated in spiritual things,

and parents should give them

every advantage, that they may

form characters after the

similitude of the character of

upon their children as younger

members of the Lord’s family,

committed to them to educate

for heaven. The lessons that we

ourselves learn from Christ we

should give to our children,

as the young minds can receive

them, little by little opening to

them the beauty of the principles

of heaven. Thus the Christian

home becomes a school,

where the parents serve as

underteachers, while Christ

Himself is the chief instructor.

Question: Boys & girls, how should fathers and

mothers look upon their children and

give their young minds lessons that

they have learned themselves?

They should look upon them as younger members

of the Lord’s family, committed to educate them for

heaven and little by little opening to them

the beauty of the principles of heaven.

And, their homes become a school,

where the parents serve as underteachers,

In working for the conversion

of our children,

we should not look for violent

emotion as the essential

evidence of conviction of sin.

Nor is it necessary to know

the exact time when they

are converted.

We should teach them to

bring their sins to Jesus,

asking His forgiveness,

and believing that He pardons

and receives them as

He received the children when

He was personally on earth.

As the mother teaches her

children to obey

her because they love her,

she is teaching them the first

lessons in the Christian life.

The mother’s love

represents to the child

the love of Christ,

and the little ones who trust

and obey their mother

are learning to trust

and obey the Saviour.

children bring to Jesus asking Him

and believing as they do?

And, what are mothers teaching their

asking His forgiveness, and believing that He pardons

and receives them as He received the children

when He was personally on earth.

in the Christian life.

All true obedience comes from the heart.

It was heart work with Christ.

And if we consent,

He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims,

so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will,

that when obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses.

The will, refined and sanctified,

will find its highest delight in doing His service.

When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him,

our life will be a life of continual obedience.

Through an appreciation of the character of Christ,

through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us.

Chapter 6-With Good Books That Ennoble the Mind Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy,

and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand.

We made it a practice to read instructive and interesting books, with the Bible,

in the family circle, and our children were always happy as we thus entertained them.

Thus we prevented a restless desire to be out in the street with young companions, and at the

same time cultivated in them a taste for solid reading. . . . The volumes of "Spirit of Prophecy,"

[THE CONFLICT OF THE AGES SERIES REPLACED THIS FOUR-VOLUME SET.]

should be in every family, and should be read aloud in the family circle. . . . (Next Slide)

The Testimonies contain instruction which meets the case of all, both parents and children.

Should these be read aloud to the entire family, the children as well as the parents would

be benefited by their counsels, warnings, and reproofs. . . .

Let the time be devoted to the reading of the Scriptures and other interesting books

that will impart knowledge and inculcate right principles. Let the best reader be selected

to read aloud, while other members of the family are engaged in useful occupations.

Thus these evenings at home may be made both pleasant and profitable.

Children need proper reading, which will afford amusement and recreation,

and not demoralize the mind or weary the body. {SD 178.3}

Most children and young people will have reading matter; and if it is not selected for them,

they will select it for themselves. They can find a ruinous quality of reading anywhere,

and they soon learn to love it; but if pure and good reading is furnished them,

they will cultivate a taste for that. {SD 178.4}

By practising right-doing, a disgust will be created in the heart for that which is low, cheap,

and disorderly. {SD 178.5}

Pure healthful reading will be to the mind what healthful food is to the body.

You will thus become stronger to resist temptation, to form right habits, and to act upon right

principles. {SD 178.6}
