THE TERRACE ON THE 7TH FLOOR

Alittle fresh air and sunshine go a long way, especially for those who are healing. This idea was not lost

on Nancy Dahlberg, RN, Intensive Care Unit manager and Kathy Christensen, RN, administrative director of Nursing Services. During the construction of the final four floors of the River Pavilion patient care tower, an opportunity to create an outdoor space for respite, renewal, and reflection was identified and the idea for the Terrace on the 7th Floor came to life. In addition to benefiting patients, the Terrace would also serve families and staff as a place to clear minds and enjoy the view.

The project was based on a newer idea, and it was not included in the original construction budget. Thankfully, Dahlberg, Christensen, and many other employees saw the long-term value that the Terrace would bring to Kadlec and our community and partnered with the Foundation to fundraise for the project. According to Dahlberg, “This shows how much the staff believes in the patient-centered care

concept and the vision to create this beautiful space as a part of the medical center.”

Thanks to impassioned staff members and community partners, over $600,000 was raised and the Terrace project was fully funded. The Terrace, which officially opened in December 2016, is over 1900 sq. feet, is handicap accessible, has outdoor seating, water features, and is home to a beautiful view. It is sure to be enjoyed by generations to come.

K-LIFE: IMPACT GIVING

The Kadlec Foundation K-LIFE program, or the Kadlec Life Income Fund, allows donors to make charitable gifts and earn 6% income for life. Through this unique

way to give, donors are able to receive financial benefits while supporting Kadlec Regional Medical Center. K-LIFE, a real estate pooled income fund, owns a medical building that is leased to Kadlec. The rental income is distributed to donors at an annual amount of 6% or more of the initial gift, over the span of one or two lives. Meanwhile Kadlec’s share immediately becomes available for funding of important capital projects to improve care for our community.

Thanks to generous donors, a total of $1,527,225 has been committed through K-LIFE with $947,889 of that committed in 2016 alone. Participation in the program has been growing and has created opportunities for existing donors to increase

support as well as brought new donors to the Foundation. One such donor is John Gilmore, who found K-LIFE to be an excellent vehicle for giving back. “Kadlec came through for me about 8 years ago…I could have easily died and I never forgot the kindness (they) showed me,” stated John. With appreciation for his past experience, John donated to K-LIFE and shared the following thoughts, “It was a very good thing for me and it was good for Kadlec too, it was win-win.”

FIGHTING BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is a critical issue. Both the frequency and outcome of the disease are alarming-- about one in eight U.S. women (12.4%) will develop invasive breast

cancer over the course of her lifetime and the death rate

is higher than almost any other type of cancer. Kadlec Foundation has identified an opportunity to combat these statistics, and better support the health care needs of our community, by expanding the capacity of our mammography services through new equipment, the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program and patient support services.

Thanks to generous donors, over $425,000 was committed toward this focused effort in 2016, and it remains a priority for 2017. The plan includes the purchase of an additional three-dimensional mammography machine and a specialized mammography positioning chair at Kadlec. These advanced equipment items will result in more local women being seen sooner. Additionally, in a continued effort to promote and sustain preventative screening, funding will also be directed toward the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program. The program, named in honor of the extraordinary commitment of our volunteers, provides mammograms at no cost to women in financial need. In 2016, the program served 223 women and the need is growing annually. With additional funding, the Foundation can better ensure that no woman goes without a screening due to an inability to pay. Lastly, in order to improve patient support services, the effort includes creating a single point of contact for patients in mammography services. This point of contact will serve as a navigator to guide patients through the entire care continuum. Outreach through educational opportunities and resources is also being planned.

SCHOLARSHIPS: A COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

Thanks to the ongoing generosity of donors, Kadlec Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship program to aid local students pursuing degrees in the health

care field. These scholarships positively impact the students and their families as well as our entire shared community by building capacity to meet the needs in the Tri-Cities.

In 2016, as a result of the program, the Foundation was able to award over $55,000 in scholarships to local students. As one of the recipients, Cassandra Hamilton, states it, “Receiving the Foundation scholarship means I can focus on my goals in school. It is difficult to work and go to nursing school but with this scholarship, I am feeling at ease and

excited for the next two years of classes! I won’t have to worry about picking up extra shifts to cover costs.”

Among the annual awarded scholarships are the following named scholarships: the Rita Murphy Scholarship, the June Marie Corrado Memorial Scholarship, the Christy Arden Memorial Scholarship, and the Richard A. Pettee, MD Memorial Scholarship. These are made possible thanks to friends and family of the named honoree.

THE TERRACE ON THE 7TH FLOOR

Alittle fresh air and sunshine go a long way, especially for those who are healing. This idea was not lost

on Nancy Dahlberg, RN, Intensive Care Unit manager and Kathy Christensen, RN, administrative director of Nursing Services. During the construction of the final four floors of the River Pavilion patient care tower, an opportunity to create an outdoor space for respite, renewal, and reflection was identified and the idea for the Terrace on the 7th Floor came to life. In addition to benefiting patients, the Terrace would also serve families and staff as a place to clear minds and enjoy the view.

The project was based on a newer idea, and it was not included in the original construction budget. Thankfully, Dahlberg, Christensen, and many other employees saw the long-term value that the Terrace would bring to Kadlec and our community and partnered with the Foundation to fundraise for the project. According to Dahlberg, “This shows how much the staff believes in the patient-centered care

concept and the vision to create this beautiful space as a part of the medical center.”

Thanks to impassioned staff members and community partners, over $600,000 was raised and the Terrace project was fully funded. The Terrace, which officially opened in December 2016, is over 1900 sq. feet, is handicap accessible, has outdoor seating, water features, and is home to a beautiful view. It is sure to be enjoyed by generations to come.

K-LIFE: IMPACT GIVING

The Kadlec Foundation K-LIFE program, or the Kadlec Life Income Fund, allows donors to make charitable gifts and earn 6% income for life. Through this unique

way to give, donors are able to receive financial benefits while supporting Kadlec Regional Medical Center. K-LIFE, a real estate pooled income fund, owns a medical building that is leased to Kadlec. The rental income is distributed to donors at an annual amount of 6% or more of the initial gift, over the span of one or two lives. Meanwhile Kadlec’s share immediately becomes available for funding of important capital projects to improve care for our community.

Thanks to generous donors, a total of $1,527,225 has been committed through K-LIFE with $947,889 of that committed in 2016 alone. Participation in the program has been growing and has created opportunities for existing donors to increase

support as well as brought new donors to the Foundation. One such donor is John Gilmore, who found K-LIFE to be an excellent vehicle for giving back. “Kadlec came through for me about 8 years ago…I could have easily died and I never forgot the kindness (they) showed me,” stated John. With appreciation for his past experience, John donated to K-LIFE and shared the following thoughts, “It was a very good thing for me and it was good for Kadlec too, it was win-win.”

THE TERRACE ON THE 7TH FLOOR

Alittle fresh air and sunshine go a long way, especially for those who are healing. This idea was not lost

on Nancy Dahlberg, RN, Intensive Care Unit manager and Kathy Christensen, RN, administrative director of Nursing Services. During the construction of the final four floors of the River Pavilion patient care tower, an opportunity to create an outdoor space for respite, renewal, and reflection was identified and the idea for the Terrace on the 7th Floor came to life. In addition to benefiting patients, the Terrace would also serve families and staff as a place to clear minds and enjoy the view.

The project was based on a newer idea, and it was not included in the original construction budget. Thankfully, Dahlberg, Christensen, and many other employees saw the long-term value that the Terrace would bring to Kadlec and our community and partnered with the Foundation to fundraise for the project. According to Dahlberg, “This shows how much the staff believes in the patient-centered care

concept and the vision to create this beautiful space as a part of the medical center.”

Thanks to impassioned staff members and community partners, over $600,000 was raised and the Terrace project was fully funded. The Terrace, which officially opened in December 2016, is over 1900 sq. feet, is handicap accessible, has outdoor seating, water features, and is home to a beautiful view. It is sure to be enjoyed by generations to come.

K-LIFE: IMPACT GIVING

The Kadlec Foundation K-LIFE program, or the Kadlec Life Income Fund, allows donors to make charitable gifts and earn 6% income for life. Through this unique

way to give, donors are able to receive financial benefits while supporting Kadlec Regional Medical Center. K-LIFE, a real estate pooled income fund, owns a medical building that is leased to Kadlec. The rental income is distributed to donors at an annual amount of 6% or more of the initial gift, over the span of one or two lives. Meanwhile Kadlec’s share immediately becomes available for funding of important capital projects to improve care for our community.

Thanks to generous donors, a total of $1,527,225 has been committed through K-LIFE with $947,889 of that committed in 2016 alone. Participation in the program has been growing and has created opportunities for existing donors to increase

support as well as brought new donors to the Foundation. One such donor is John Gilmore, who found K-LIFE to be an excellent vehicle for giving back. “Kadlec came through for me about 8 years ago…I could have easily died and I never forgot the kindness (they) showed me,” stated John. With appreciation for his past experience, John donated to K-LIFE and shared the following thoughts, “It was a very good thing for me and it was good for Kadlec too, it was win-win.”

FIGHTING BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is a critical issue. Both the frequency and outcome of the disease are alarming-- about one in eight U.S. women (12.4%) will develop invasive breast

cancer over the course of her lifetime and the death rate

is higher than almost any other type of cancer. Kadlec Foundation has identified an opportunity to combat these statistics, and better support the health care needs of our community, by expanding the capacity of our mammography services through new equipment, the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program and patient support services.

Thanks to generous donors, over $425,000 was committed toward this focused effort in 2016, and it remains a priority for 2017. The plan includes the purchase of an additional three-dimensional mammography machine and a specialized mammography positioning chair at Kadlec. These advanced equipment items will result in more local women being seen sooner. Additionally, in a continued effort to promote and sustain preventative screening, funding will also be directed toward the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program. The program, named in honor of the extraordinary commitment of our volunteers, provides mammograms at no cost to women in financial need. In 2016, the program served 223 women and the need is growing annually. With additional funding, the Foundation can better ensure that no woman goes without a screening due to an inability to pay. Lastly, in order to improve patient support services, the effort includes creating a single point of contact for patients in mammography services. This point of contact will serve as a navigator to guide patients through the entire care continuum. Outreach through educational opportunities and resources is also being planned.

SCHOLARSHIPS: A COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

Thanks to the ongoing generosity of donors, Kadlec Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship program to aid local students pursuing degrees in the health

care field. These scholarships positively impact the students and their families as well as our entire shared community by building capacity to meet the needs in the Tri-Cities.

In 2016, as a result of the program, the Foundation was able to award over $55,000 in scholarships to local students. As one of the recipients, Cassandra Hamilton, states it, “Receiving the Foundation scholarship means I can focus on my goals in school. It is difficult to work and go to nursing school but with this scholarship, I am feeling at ease and

excited for the next two years of classes! I won’t have to worry about picking up extra shifts to cover costs.”

FIGHTING BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer is a critical issue. Both the frequency and outcome of the disease are alarming-- about one in eight U.S. women (12.4%) will develop invasive breast

cancer over the course of her lifetime and the death rate

is higher than almost any other type of cancer. Kadlec Foundation has identified an opportunity to combat these statistics, and better support the health care needs of our community, by expanding the capacity of our mammography services through new equipment, the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program and patient support services.

Thanks to generous donors, over $425,000 was committed toward this focused effort in 2016, and it remains a priority for 2017. The plan includes the purchase of an additional three-dimensional mammography machine and a specialized mammography positioning chair at Kadlec. These advanced equipment items will result in more local women being seen sooner. Additionally, in a continued effort to promote and sustain preventative screening, funding will also be directed toward the Kadlec Auxiliary Mammogram Assistance Program. The program, named in honor of the extraordinary commitment of our volunteers, provides mammograms at no cost to women in financial need. In 2016, the program served 223 women and the need is growing annually. With additional funding, the Foundation can better ensure that no woman goes without a screening due to an inability to pay. Lastly, in order to improve patient support services, the effort includes creating a single point of contact for patients in mammography services. This point of contact will serve as a navigator to guide patients through the entire care continuum. Outreach through educational opportunities and resources is also being planned.

SCHOLARSHIPS: A COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

Thanks to the ongoing generosity of donors, Kadlec Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship program to aid local students pursuing degrees in the health

care field. These scholarships positively impact the students and their families as well as our entire shared community by building capacity to meet the needs in the Tri-Cities.

In 2016, as a result of the program, the Foundation was able to award over $55,000 in scholarships to local students. As one of the recipients, Cassandra Hamilton, states it, “Receiving the Foundation scholarship means I can focus on my goals in school. It is difficult to work and go to nursing school but with this scholarship, I am feeling at ease and

excited for the next two years of classes! I won’t have to worry about picking up extra shifts to cover costs.”

THE TERRACE ON THE 7TH FLOOR

Alittle fresh air and sunshine go a long way, especially for those who are healing. This idea was not lost

on Nancy Dahlberg, RN, Intensive Care Unit manager and Kathy Christensen, RN, administrative director of Nursing Services. During the construction of the final four floors of the River Pavilion patient care tower, an opportunity to create an outdoor space for respite, renewal, and reflection was identified and the idea for the Terrace on the 7th Floor came to life. In addition to benefiting patients, the Terrace would also serve families and staff as a place to clear minds and enjoy the view.

The project was based on a newer idea, and it was not included in the original construction budget. Thankfully, Dahlberg, Christensen, and many other employees saw the long-term value that the Terrace would bring to Kadlec and our community and partnered with the Foundation to fundraise for the project. According to Dahlberg, “This shows how much the staff believes in the patient-centered care

concept and the vision to create this beautiful space as a part of the medical center.”

Thanks to impassioned staff members and community partners, over $600,000 was raised and the Terrace project was fully funded. The Terrace, which officially opened in December 2016, is over 1900 sq. feet, is handicap accessible, has outdoor seating, water features, and is home to a beautiful view. It is sure to be enjoyed by generations to come.

K-LIFE: IMPACT GIVING

The Kadlec Foundation K-LIFE program, or the Kadlec Life Income Fund, allows donors to make charitable gifts and earn 6% income for life. Through this unique

way to give, donors are able to receive financial benefits while supporting Kadlec Regional Medical Center. K-LIFE, a real estate pooled income fund, owns a medical building that is leased to Kadlec. The rental income is distributed to donors at an annual amount of 6% or more of the initial gift, over the span of one or two lives. Meanwhile Kadlec’s share immediately becomes available for funding of important capital projects to improve care for our community.

Thanks to generous donors, a total of $1,527,225 has been committed through K-LIFE with $947,889 of that committed in 2016 alone. Participation in the program has been growing and has created opportunities for existing donors to increase

support as well as brought new donors to the Foundation. One such donor is John Gilmore, who found K-LIFE to be an excellent vehicle for giving back. “Kadlec came through for me about 8 years ago…I could have easily died and I never forgot the kindness (they) showed me,” stated John. With appreciation for his past experience, John donated to K-LIFE and shared the following thoughts, “It was a very good thing for me and it was good for Kadlec too, it was win-win.”
