Actorsingers dedicates our 2017-18 mainstage season

in memory of Warren Tomasian

V. Warren Tomasian joined Actorsingers in 1965. After volunteering continuously for 15 years, he became a Life Member in 1980 and continued to work on virtually every main stage production through 2010. He donated his considerable talents to set building and construction, and stage and production management. Older members will recall with a grin his construction of "the stairway to heaven" for our production of Kiss Me, Kate.

With his vast knowledge of building construction learned at his father's side, Warren also played a significant role in Actorsingers' several-year search for and acquisition in the mid-70s of its current home at the former St. Joseph Elementary School at 219 Lake Street. He also played a major role in the rehabilitation and renovation of the building to suit Actorsingers' particular needs, including set building and paint rooms, a props room, costume storage room, and several rehearsal rooms.

Warren will be most fondly remembered and missed for his mischievous sense of humor, raucous laugh and highly infectious giggle.

Many thanks, Warren, for your years of devotion to Actorsingers, the gift of your hard work and enduring friendship.

Director’s Note The Drowsy Chaperone is a love story; an unconventional love story at that. Although there is a big wedding at the end, that’s not the love story I am referring to. I mean to say it is about the love of a person for theater. For Drowsy Chaperone that love began at the show’s inception. It was originally a skit performed at the bachelor party of Canadian actors Robert Martin and Janet Van de Graaff (yep, they’re real). It was a gift from their incredibly talented theater friends and it evolved from that skit into a grand love letter to musical theater. You will see a love for theater in every aspect of Actorsingers’ Drowsy Chaperone. Everyone involved has shown a great deal of love for this show and for all musical theater. It’s evident in the amount of time, effort and energy we’ve poured into this production. It is apparent in the skill that the cast, crew and production team have given to putting Drowsy Chaperone on the stage. I first saw The Drowsy Chaperone 10 years ago and immediately fell in love. My first impression (after laughing hysterically for an hour and forty-five minutes) was that it would be a perfect show for community theaters. It contains incredible opportunities for everyone involved. There are many featured roles in the show that give a wide range of performers a chance to shine. It also has many challenging moments for the creative team to show off their skills. On top of that, it is very funny, original, and has tons of heart. The great thing about loving musical theater is that it loves you back. If you let it, theater can carry you away from the worries of your life. It can lift you out of your troubles and transport you to a different time and place. It can raise your spirits, educate, illuminate and touch your heart. Please join us as we travel back to 1928, to the wedding of Robert Martin and Janet Van de Graaff. Where the music is catchy, the ice water flows and the characters are hilarious. It is my hope that you love this performance as much as I did that first time.

Production Team Biographies

Eric Hill (Sound Design) is pleased to be running sound for Drowsy Chaperone. He has been assisting with sound since 2014 and has recently run sound for the Actorsingers productions of Rock of Ages, Bat Boy and Crazy for You. He would like to thank his wife and family for all their support and encouragement, and Mike O'Keefe for his time, mentorship, and patience.

Gretchen Gray (Props Mistress) has been involved as properties manager for oodles and oodles of shows with Actorsingers, StageCoach Productions, Peacock Players, and others. Her basement is filled with an odd assortment of props and set pieces. Taking trips to thrift shops and recycling centers are part of the fun she has while coming up with what you see on the stage. Enjoy the show!

Craig Brennan (Lighting Design) has been involved in theatre since high school and has loved it ever since. He has been doing theatre in this area since 1997 for just about everyone, both community and professional, including Actorsingers, MCTP, Nashua Theatre Guild, and Milford Area Players. He has received the NH Theatre Award for lighting design 3 times (2003, ‘08, and ’13). From Off-Broadway to Boston, Craig has seen it all. If you don't know him you should!

Valerie Levesque (Producer) Val is glad to be back at Actorsingers. A Life Member, she serves on the Board of Directors. She would like to thank Pam and Chuck for co-producing with her.

Allison Szklarz (Costume Design) is excited to be bringing back the 20's for this production of Drowsy Chaperone. It has been genuine fun working and collaborating with this cast and crew. She hopes you will find an iconic 20's fashion or two that will help transport you back in time as you enjoy this production. Actorsingers audiences may have seen her work on Rock of Ages, Spamalot, Bat Boy or Wedding Singer. Other recent work includes Little Shop of Horrors with Genesis Productions, and many shows with StageCoach and the Peacock Players.

Karen Burum (Hair and Makeup Design) Some favorite past productions in 2015 have been Follies (DASH Award, Makeup Design), The Desk Set (DASH Award, Hair Design), and Kiss Me Kate (DASH Nomination, Hair Design) (Concord Players), and in 2016 Nice Work If You Can Get It (DASH Nomination, Hair & Makeup Design), (Savoyard Light Opera Co.) Cheers to this talented cast and crew for bringing the 1920's to life! Special thanks to Catherine Andruskevich.

Amy Mackay (Set Design) was a technical director for 10 years for the First Coast Opera, Limelight Theatre and Florida Ballet, and taught and directed at Matanzas High School in FL. In NH, she has done costume design, produced, and directed for Actorsingers, Derryfield School, and Nashua Theatre Guild. She would like to thank her loving husband for understanding her addiction to theatre and her children Wesley & Fiora for being sweet and even having fun thru this process.

Have you ever watched a performance and wanted to get involved but didn’t know how? Do you like to paint?

Would you like to learn to use power tools? Do you like to sew?

Would you like to work backstage? Actorsingers is a welcoming organization and we want to hear from you!

The opportunities to get involved are numerous. We own a building in the city of Nashua and the structure has 3 levels where we create the elements necessary to assemble our musical productions. On the second level, we build and paint sets – and we also store our props [anything held on stage by an actor] and set pieces [furniture]. About three-fourths of our third level space is occupied by the costumes we have collected, crafted and maintained since 1955; The remaining one-fourth on this level is a room where the directors work with the actors to rehearse the song, dance and acting elements of our musicals. The first level of our building is where we enter. It’s where we socialize over meals cooked in the kitchen. It’s where we dance after a production closes. It’s where we hold our government board meetings and sell our tickets. There’s a volunteer opportunity for you on every level of our building and we want to invite you to get up from your seat and join with us in producing amateur theater for the community in the city of Nashua. Send an email message to [email protected] or send us a letter at our snail mail address – PO Box 91 / Nashua, NH 03061-0091

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Applause .... Applause .... Applause ... Applause ....

Thanks, Pam T. for always encouraging me. Jo-Ann

Lance sends love to his daughters Megan and Caitlyn, and thanks them for their inspiration and support.

Pam Bruckman (Producer) has been seen on and off the stage at Actorsingers, is serving on the Board of Directors, and is a proud life member of the organization. She is happy to have worked with her co-producers, directors Lance, Karina and Logan, and this great cast and crew, who all put in their all, were a great team, and made this challenging job less challenging.

Karina Allayne (Music Director) has over 25 years experience teaching, directing, and performing music. This is Karina's first show with Actorsingers and she has enjoyed working with such fun, committed and talented cast and crew! This is her 11th show as MD and 16th show playing in a show orchestra. When Karina is not music directing and playing piano, she is running her farm and learning center: Greentwist Acres.

Charles M. Emmons (Producer) For over 2 decades Charles has participated in numerous local theater productions throughout southern NH, both in front of and behind the curtain. In addition to acting, working backstage and producing shows for various community theater groups, he has chaired several state and regional one-act theater festivals.
