MESSAGE FROM THE EAST

Andy Paradowski, Worshipful Master

Back to the Drawing Board

When I reached the end of my first term asWorshipful Master, I realized there were designsdrawn on the trestleboard, which had not come tofruition. An advantage of being allowed to serve asecond term is that I have had the opportunity torevisit those dusty designs, and with the help of myBrothers, develop them into programs for this year.I am pleased that in the coming months three ofthese plans will be implemented, and the resultingworks will benefit our Lodge and Community.

North Shore Fire Department Rescue Squad

The North Shore Fire Department needs topurchase and equip another rescue squad. However, they will not be able to do so until they have thefunds required. We have an opportunity here tomake a difference in our community. We would liketo contribute to a key piece of emergency medicalequipment that will save lives in our community. We are working with Aurora Lodge #30, to raisefunds and ultimately present one check from theLodges in our Masonic Center.

I appeal to you to give generously to thisproject. We have an opportunity, working together,to do some good. The George Washington 1776Masonic Fund has approved up to $1000.00 inmatching funds for this project so your contributionwill go twice as far. Please make checks payable tothe George Washington 1776 Fund, 517 E.Beaumont Avenue, Whitefish Bay, WI 53217.

Havenwoods State Forest

There is a chunk of State Forest situatedwithin the North side of the City of Milwaukee. Most people do not even know of its existence. It isdifferent than any other green space in the MetroMilwaukee area as it is not mowed and manicured. It is largely natural prairie and forest area. Itcontains Hiking and Ski Trails, and a Nature Centerthat is the home to many community programs.

We are adopting a trail at Havenwoods andwill be doing ongoing service projects to maintain it.Our first two service projects will be at 9:00 AM onSaturdays May 31 and June 28. We will be doinglitter control and trail maintenance. If you live in theMilwaukee Area, please come out and help usmaintain and improve this community treasure.

Are you Rusty?

On Tuesday June 17 at 7:30pm we willconfer The Masonic Traveler's Refresher Degree, also known as the Rusty Nail Degree. This is a toolthat is used to re-acquaint brethren with the signs, tokens, and words of the three degrees, enablingthem more easily to gain admission into anyMasonic Lodge. If you have not been to Lodge in awhile, and would like to brush-up on these things, please join us for the evening. Immediatelyfollowing the meeting will be our annual StrawberryFestival where we will enjoy Strawberry Shortcakedownstairs in Stegner Hall. Please RSVP withSecretary David Haase, PM by June 14.

When we becameMasons, we all passed throughthree degrees to join the BlueLodge. For some of us it has beena while. Can you remember verymuch of the degree work?Would you like to become morefamiliar with the degree work?

I invite you to come toSilver Spring Masonic CenterMonday nights at 7:00pm to joinin degree practices. If the lasttime you participated in a degreewas when YOU received it, comeand join us for the review.

The Monday nightpractices give us a chance torenew the degrees, learn someparts, renew old friendships, andmeet some of our newer brothers.

If you come to thepractices, you won't be requiredto join a degree team. You may, like many of us, find enjoymentin helping out with one or moredegrees.
