Parish Mission Statement The Church of Saint Ann

in Lawrenceville is a Roman Catholic family of faith,

built on the inspiration of past generations,

to serve the community by loving God and our neighbor.

We strengthen faith, celebrate the sacraments,

provide for the spiritual and corporal works of mercy,

educate across the lifespan, heal the spiritually broken,

and respect the dignity of human life.

We live the Gospel and seek Christ in all people.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 12, 2017

Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Collection Next week, we will take up a collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. By supporting this collection you give people a hand up, not a hand out. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection. As is our custom, we will take up only one collection. Envelopes are available at the doors of the church.

Baptism Preparation Class

Just a reminder that there is no Baptism Preparation Class held in December. The last session for 2017 will be held on Tuesday, November 14

th at 7:00 PM. This

class is intended for anyone who is looking to baptize their first child in the near future. Registration forms, dates, and times can be found on the Saint Ann website.

READER (LECTOR) MEETING

On Tuesday evening, November 14, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, all parish Readers (Lectors) are invited to come to the main Church to pause, and reflect on this important ministry. At the meeting, we will briefly go over the role and description of your ministry, provide some proclaiming tips, and give out the new 2018 Workbook for Lectors, Gospel Readers, and Proclaimers of the Word. This resource is what all Readers (Lectors) need to prepare for their ministry! For questions, contact Gary Maccaroni at 882-6491, ext. 116, or at [email protected]. The vocation to be a lector is a great privilege because we are proclaiming not just any message; we are proclaiming the Word of God!

NOVEMBER 12, 2017 - 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

JOIN THE MINISTRY OF

READER (LECTOR) Proclaiming the Old and New Testament scriptures at Mass, carrying on the tradition of the oral transmission of the Word of God has been done in Christian Churches for two millennia. The Reader (Lector) ministry is open to all Catholics who have received the Sacrament of

Confirmation (high school age and above). Readers (Lectors) serve at all of our weekend Masses: on Saturday at 5:00 PM, and Sunday at 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, & 12:30 PM. The parish will provide the formation and preparation materials. If you are interested in joining this ministry, contact Gary Maccaroni at [email protected] or call (609)882-6491, ext. 116.

CYO/SPORTS VOLUNTEER

COORDINATOR NEEDED We are looking for a volunteer (or volunteers/team) to coordinate/oversee our parish/school youth sports program (CYO, Catholic Youth Organization). The purpose of the CYO/Sports Program is to provide an enjoyable, instructive, and positive sporting environment where participants can learn the fundamentals of a sport, teamwork, and other life skills consistent with our Christian faith. CYO plays a competitive schedule against other Catholic parishes in Mercer County. The parish provides the support and resources for the smooth running of the program. We are hoping to get a person (or persons) in place as soon as possible to plan for the Spring Season, which includes soccer and track. Without a coordinator, the parish cannot participate in CYO sports. Those interested should contact Gary Maccaroni at (609) 882-6491, or at [email protected].

Driver Needed Need an energetic, early riser to pick up the “BREAD” order from Italian People’s Bakery in Trenton on Thanksgiving morning. This small loaf of bread is blessed and given to all those who attend mass on Thanksgiving Day at Saint Ann’s. In terms of size, the order would amount to three or four bags and would need to arrive at Saint Ann’s Church by 8:40 AM.

If you are the early riser we are looking for, please call Sister Pat.

Coffee and Donuts

Congratulations to all the winners of the beautiful centerpieces that were chanced off at coffee and donuts last week!

The session will be conducted four times on November 15

th at 8:30 AM or 10:00 AM and also 4:00 PM or

7:00 PM. Thank you to all the people in this ministry who have been “ironing” all year!!!

Advent Season Family Participation

The First Sunday of Advent is December 3rd

. Once again, we ask that you considerer being part of the entrance procession by carrying the Advent candles to the wreath. Sign-up sheets will be in the back of the church.

Altar Server Training Thank you to the nine new altar servers who have signed up to provide this sacred service for the Saint Ann Community. The class is still forming so there is still time to sign up. We can adapt to busy schedules and provide training at a time that is convenient. Please call or email Sr. Pat if you are interested. The next training session will take place on Tuesday, November 21 at 3:00 PM or 6:30 PM.

A few words from Pope Paul to a meeting of Altar Servers in Rome:

Serving at the altar, the Pope told the young people, it is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn "enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them."

"The closer you are to the altar," he told them, "the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE, continued . . .

NOVEMBER 12, 2017 - 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

What is the RCIA Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens? The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens is for inquirers

in the RCIA process who are discerning their call to be baptized in the

Roman Catholic Church. At the Rite they make public their intention to

be baptized and ask for the support of the parish community. They are

asked to more fully embrace the Gospel message with the help of

God, and are signed with the Cross to show that they now belong to Christ.

What is the RCIA Rite of Welcome? The Rite of Welcome is for inquirers who have been previously baptized and are ready to publicly declare their intention

to continue their journey toward full communion with the Catholic Church. They are asked if they are ready to listen to

the apostles’ instruction, to gather with the worshipping community in prayer, and to join that community in the love and

service of others. They are signed with the Cross to show that they belong to Christ. After the Rite, they are known as

candidates.

The parish community is asked to pray and reach out in welcome as we walk together in faith.

Knights of Columbus Sponsor

MERCER HIGH SCHOOL Thanksgiving Food Drive The Knights of Columbus Council 7000 is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Mercer High School. They are collecting non-perishable food items that will be distributed to needy families from the school during the Thanksgiving Holiday. (Last school year, the Knights of Columbus and The Church of Saint Ann helped approximately 55-60 families during their Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter breaks.) Please drop off all food donations by November 15, 2017 (place them on the

shelves in the Church foyer) and mark Mercer High School on the donations. If you have any questions, please call John Sikorski at (609) 883-2509 or e-mail him at [email protected]. Some suggested items include: stuffing mix, mashed potatoes, packets of gravy mixes, rice or rice mixes, cans of vegetables, cranberry sauce, cans of yams, cans of fruit, cake or brownie mixes, cookies, juice, coffee or tea.

Donations will also be acceptable. Make checks payable to the Knights of Columbus Council 7000 and put Mercer High School on the memo line. Mail checks to: John Sikorski, 40 Lawrence Ave., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.

Saint Vincent de Paul Society Thanksgiving Turkey Drive It’s that time of year already, and once we are calling upon the generosity of the parishioners of Saint Ann and Saint Michael to come to the aid of our neighbors. On Monday evening, November 20, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, members of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will be at the FRONT of the Church of Saint Ann collecting FROZEN turkeys. Saint Michael’s should also bring their donated turkeys to Saint Ann’s. These will then be distributed to the Lawrenceville Community Center, Project Freedom, and Mercer County High School. There is a great need for turkeys this year.

SVDP hopes all members of our parish community have an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. If your family would like a turkey, please place your name, address and phone number in an envelope labeled Saint Vincent de Paul and place it in the collection basket at Mass or leave it with the Faith Development Center receptionist. We’ll contact you as to where and when to pick up your turkey.
