Introducing…

ELISE ANSEL

We are delighted to welcome Elise Ansel to the gallery. From New York and currently lecturing at Brown University and Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art, Elise has exhibited extensively all over the USA but this is the first time that her striking oil-paint-ings will be exhibited in the UK.

Often based upon Old Master paintings, the visual references in her canvases are abstracted until they become primarily sensual. Familiar compositions are undermined narratively but accentuated to appeal to our subliminal physicality by her sweeping brushstrokes and provocative colours.

EMMA FERGUSON

Also exhibiting with us, and in indeed in the UK for the first time, is Spanish artist Emma Ferguson. Having won a number of prestigious grants and awards, including both the Delacroix and the Excellence awards at the Pratt Institute in New York, she has since exhibited successfully in New York and Madrid.

Of her work she says, 'I aim to achieve a balance of tensions between positive and negative space, to express form through an economy of line, to expand the properties of various materials, and to explore the properties (or absence of) color.' Her exquisite paintings and drawings explore these ideals considerable effect.
