We bid farewell to the former Principal Prof (Mrs) Pennamma Ranadive on 8 th March 2014. I have been given the opportunity to work as the Acting Principal since then with the support of our Director, administrative team and the entire teaching & non- teaching staff of this institute. In the month of June, our College had 4 inspections from Delhi Nursing Council, Aca- demic Audit Cell and Joint Assessment from G.G.S.I.P. University for our GNM & B. Sc. (Hons) Nursing programmes. The successful inspections have been encouraging. We also renewed our recognition as minority educational institution. Our Nursing programme has been integrated with academic and co-curricular activities for an all- round development of the students with careful planning and strict discipline. Our goal is to prepare nurses who combine the highest level of scientific knowledge and technological skill with responsible caring practice. I, along with my faculty would like to challenge the students to identify and master the cognitive & techni- cal skills as well as interpersonal, ethical/ legal skills needed to effectively nurse the patients in their care. I congratulate the freshers for choosing this exciting and rewarding profession. St. Stephen‟s Hospital College of Nursing warmly welcomes you to our profession and prize our role as your guide to excellent practice. WHO Day 2014

Each year 7th April is celebrated as WHO Day with

a significant health related issue taken up as a theme. The SNA also celebrated WHO Day by organizing a health education programme at the Patient Waiting Area of our hospital at 10.30 am. The theme for this year was “Vector – Borne Dis-eases”.

The chief guest for the event was Dr. Ann Mathew, Deputy Director of our hospital. She spoke about the importance of controlling the vector- borne dis-eases. The students of GNM 3

rd year performed a

skit highlighting the importance of prevention of these vector borne diseases especially malaria. Stu-dents prepared charts on different vector borne dis-eases showing their signs & symptoms, causes, treatment and prevention and explained them to the general public attending the health education pro-gramme. It was information sharing time and educa-tive experience for all.

Four Years Experience

I Donna Mary Moncy joined St. Stephen‟s hospital in the year 2010. It was really a good experience for me. I grew up socially and spiritually and became independent. I learnt both theoretically and practi-cally. Whenever I had doubts relating to my studies, the teachers were always there to help me out. The best thing that I like about St. Stephen‟s is the prayer before start of any event be it cultural, sports event or any other celebration and this has helped me a lot in growing spiritually. Four years of my life‟s journey was spent here and I have learned to live independ-ently and to have patience to tackle any kind of situation. I feel blessed that I could study in this insti-tution.

Donna Mary Moncy

Former BSc. (Hons) Nursing Student

Just few weeks ago, I was in Orthopaedics ward. It had been a wonderful experience with learning nurs-ing care and procedures. It is said „We health work-ers should have a positive attitude towards patients.‟ This was an eye opener for me, as I met several po-lio patients in shockingly miserable state bearing the intolerable pain. They feel challenged and often this battle of challenge ruins their better part of child-hood. I wondered how they are bearing it with a smile on their face. They have a positive attitude in their minds which makes them believe that they will stand and start walking soon. Their positive attitude and high spirit is truly commendable. It is amazing to realize that it is possible to engage ourselves for the well-being of these people. It also helps us to perceive life and events as challenges

rather than difficulties. Now, I feel that I may be new to this place but not to Polio. Let‟s make people rise and stand for their dreams. Let‟s be positive as positive attitude makes everything possible.

My First Year Experience

My first year was full of new experiences. I was able to cross all the obstacles of my first year be-cause of my teachers‟ guidance and support. Ini-tially, I faced a lot of difficulties in coping with the new environment and negative thoughts kept on coming in my mind. But my teachers especially my class teacher and her motivating classes helped me to overcome this situation. This field of nursing has given me the opportunity to learn and excel in academics and clinical areas and contribute my bit in medical field by serving peo-ple.

The extra -curricular activities were also a great sporty experience. I enjoyed a lot during the Sports Events and Talent Night. All these activi-ties were such a relaxation from the stressful en-vironment.

In the end I would highlight the blessings of the patients that really boosted me and it had a posi-tive impact on my life. After coming into this pro-fession, I am able to understand this profession better and have realised its importance. I am more passionate towards my profession now be-cause of my clinical experience and interesting lectures.
