Washington State FlagWashington did not actually adopt the design of the flag until the Year 1923, thirty years after the state joined the union.

The emblem on the state flag is the state seal, which was first designed in 1889 by Olympia jeweler Charles Talcott. He used an ink bottle and a silver dollar to draw the rings of the seal, and then pasted a postage stamp in the center for the picture of George Washington. His brother L. Grant Talcott lettered the words "The Seal of the State of Washington 1889."

Washington's capital is Olympia. It has been the capital since the year 1853. However, it is not the most populous

city in Washington. After Olympia became capital city of the Washington Territory in 1853, the city's founder, Edmund

Sylvester, gave the legislature 12 acres of land upon which to build the capitol, located on a hill overlooking what is

now known as Capitol Lake.

Space NeedleOriginally sketched on a place mat, the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington, stands 605 feet tall, stoically watching over the Puget Sound city. Built in 1962 for the World's Fair, the Space Needle was

the futuristic dream of Edward E. Carlson. The structure cost $4.5 million dollars to build and took 13 months to complete. It opened on April 21, the first day of the World Fair.

1976: Tragedy strikes the Seahawks before they even play their first game when Lloyd W. Nordstrom the expansion team's owner dies from a heart attack on January 20th

while vacationing in Mexico.1977: In one of the dumbest moves in franchise history the

Seahawks trade their top pick in the draft to the Dallas Cowboys for three second round picks. The Cowboys would use the pick to select Running Back Tony Dorsett who would

have a Hall of Fame career. The Seahawks have never made it to the Super bowl.

The Ferry BoatWashington State Ferries is a passenger and automobile ferry service owned and

operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation that serves communities on Puget Sound and in the San Juan Islands. It is the largest passenger and automobile ferry fleet in the United States and the third largest in the world by

fleet size. The service is also the largest in the world based on the number of vehicles carried, having carried 11 million annually. I have been on the particular ferry boat

several times while visiting my grandma. We have to board this to get to her place.
